Engine Swap Pricing
I am planning to make an engine swap in the summer of 2003. I have a 95 Civic EX and was trying to find people who have already done this to give me pricing info so I know how much to save. I need people who have done B18c1 and H22a. I am trying to figure out which engine I want so any feedback would be much appreciated.

Re: Engine Swap Pricing (Tiger95)
There's a search button in the top right corner up there.
Click on it and then select "archived" threads and then type in "B18C1" and hit enter.
Then do the same but type in "H22A" instead.
You should find more than enough info there.
http://www.hondamotorsonline.com sells both swaps in question, so check prices there.
The labor is more intensive on the H22A swap, and you do need a mount kit and you will have to cut holes in the unibody to run the shifter cables, but from what H22A guys tell us it's not too hard.
The H22A will definately be quicker than the B18C1 with equal mods and cars, but I am not 100% certain how the total costs stack up.
I can tell you that a good B18C1 swap shipped to you will probbaly be $3,400-$3,500 from the link above. Labor will vary too much from shop to shop.
The H22A swap will run about $2,500-$2,600 shipped from the same place. Add in the cost of the mount kit which is $450-$650 depending on brand and you're looking at $3,050-$3,250. Not bad, but remember that the labor will be more intensive and a shop will charge a few hundred dollars extra to do it over the B18C1.
Good luck!

Re: Engine Swap Pricing (B18C5-EH2)
My girlfriends brother is a mechanic, so I am not worried about labor. He is going to do it for free. I just want to make sure I choose the right engine.

Re: Engine Swap Pricing (Tiger95)
I would go with B18s... even tho H22 is a bigger engine, it's not as high rev and boost friendly as B18s... so for either all motor or FI, I will still go with B series..
if you really want displacement, try B20 vtec...
and the H22 add extra weight to the Hatch which causes the car to understeer more...
just my 2 cents for free...

Re: Engine Swap Pricing (Tiger95)
with an H22A you get the fastest straight-line combination out there.
with a B18C you get the best aftermarket support out there.
B18C can be done in five hours.
H22A takes quite some time.
Go with a B18 and, later when you want to go faster, a turbo will better suit the platform you already have

Read the thread entitled "the H22A Hatch Kicked my ***!!!" and you'll see that the quoted theory above isn't always true.

Why do people keep assuming this? I beat an identically prepped H22A hatch by .4 at the strip yet eveyone keeps saying that the H22A is "hands down the fastst in a straight line" when it just isn't true.
I'm not saying that the H22A is slow, but it is not the 100% quickest for sure.
