engine swap on an 86 Honda Civic hatchback
i was wondering if it was possible to put a 98 B16A (JDM) into my 86 honda civic. i realize i would have to make a lot of changes like, new axels, shocks, motor mounts, lower it down due to hp difference. but, i was just wondering if it was possible. will the engine fit? or is it too big? the engine that is currently in there has a lot of room around it. there's deffinitly room for a bigger engine. i just don't know if this engine will fit. i'm hoping it will, cause i got it brand new (10,000 miles on it) out of a car that flipped 5 times for $50. nothing wrong with the engine, i've gone over it and so have two other mechanics. please if anyone knows, give me a reply. oh yeh, i'm new to the board. adaM

H22's amoung other big *** engines in 86 Civic HB's have fit so I would hope a B16 fits...
Really though, it fits and they make mount kits for it. Check out HAsport. Maybe HCP.

Is your 86 carbureted? If so fitting the engine is the least of your problems. You will have a real chore getting the fuel-injected engine management and electronic ignition running unless you use something like a full standalone system. Otherwise you might modify the intake manifold for some sweet dual sidedraft carbs and use a distributorless ignition system like the Electromotive. Of course then you will have spent what a B16 swap usually costs...
Also you have a cable clutch, that tranny you have is hydraulic. You'll need to sell that and get an early model B16 cable trans.
You'll need custom mounts and probably custom axles also.

My 86 Civic Dx 3dr is carburated. I wanted to put my H22 it in but I'd rather spend my time and money doing other things, some of which are for those reasons.
