Default engine overheat

i have a b20 engine in a 99 hatch. just today when i was parked at a light, i looked at the hot/cold meter on the cluster and its all the way close to the H. when i start driving over 30 mph it goes down to the center like normal. when i park again it goes up to the H again.. what can be my problem?

its either ur low on coolant, ur hose is bad, or ur pump but mostly think ur low on coolant.

you can check if none of your coolant hoses are leaking or your radiator fan could not be turning / sensor issue.

Thats the route i would go. if the cooling fan isnt working that would explain why it gets hot at idle

A radiator fan not turning would be a likely cause.

I would turn it off if it overheats, you don't want to blow headgasket/warp the head

I would first check the coolant level when the engine is cold "both radiator and reservoir". Second I would run it at 2500 rpms to warm it up to check if the cooling fans turn on and turn the right directions, lol I've seen it. Make sure you DON'T over heat it during the fan-cycle process!!! Then check for leaks at all hoses radiator and heater core hoses, The radiator, heater core, water pump, and Thermos stat. If everything is a go, I would replace the thermos stat, its cheap and quick.

it sounds like your low on coolant and your fan may or may not be working.

You still have a problem. Check your thermostat and the rad fan.
