Engine, good or bad?
I've been hearing lots of mixed talk about the engine I'm running (a D16Z6), I just wanted to know, what's everybody's opinion on that engine? Is it good? Is it bad? I realize it's better than some motors and worse than others, that it's not at any other end of the scale, but if some people can just give me their experience with it that'd be great. I also realize that some people have different experiences with different engines (but that's part of research through polls - intro to sociology text book O.O).
Thanks

My brother has that engine, while i have a B16A3. He has a 92 hatch and i have a del sol. Both are stock, except that my brother has a SRI. I feel like his car is faster than mine, but i think it has more to do in the fact that his car is lighter than mine. Both of our engines consume about the same amount of gas and get use from point A to point B just fine. I'd get that D16Z6 if i were you because parts are cheap and readily available, or at least more so than with a B series. At least thats how it is here in canada. A d series can be found for like 400 bucks while Bs are gonna be a lot more, depending on the condition and all that. Ds are supposed to be economical and Bs are supposed to be more performance oriented, but i dont see a difference, other than my VTEC (B series) is a lot louder. So yea, there ya go.

I don't meant to be apathetic but this has probably been covered like 324892308432 times. But i'll comment on my experience for you.
I got Delsol SI (D16z6) at 160k miles. It was decently strong. On good runs i'd me neck & neck with Integ LSs. And when baby driven i could squeeze 32+mpg. I drove that motor till about 200k and even blowing the motor somewhere in between. i was told it was the head gasket, not bad but I noticed a tremendous power loss, but never the less drove till just over 200kmiles.
And so at about 201k miles i did an B18b swap, the motor itself was at about 70k miles. The high end wasn't too much different, i mean with mere 15hp or so over the z6 you can't feel too much of a difference. But when i gunned from take off i was very impressed with the low end power difference. As for mpg the LS guzzles quite a bit more fuel than the z6, but when babying it i squeeze just about 30mph. Oh, and i do sorta kinda miss vtec
in other cases a buddy of mine had a z6 in a CRX and man did his car fly. But really it's all on preference, power goals, and how big your pockets are.
