Default engine decision help

hey i totaled my civic a few days ago and im gonna get a shell of this guy for 500 after he takes his wheels exhaust and battery. its manual so what i wanna spend is like around 1500 max on engine i dont really wanna get into converting the computer harness and all that. but it had a y7 engine and tranny so can i toss a y8 tranny in and set the y7 engine from my totaled civic in there and be good to go? and the engine has 180k on it too so should i have it fixed up or what? i just want some advice not trying to break bank cause this has put me behind pretty badly

The D16Y8 transmission will properly mate and function with a D16Y7 engine. As for the engine, you can conduct a compression test and go from there.

it was 120 all the way around thats where it should be right
i just had the head completely redone before the accident but the bottom is 180k when i did the test for compression i held it for like 5 seconds each but it was like 120 in each

That sounds a little low. My b18b1 blew 185-190 all the way across, while cold. Its nothing to worry about, if its even all the way across you are good. Just not running as good as it could.

What do you mean "held it for 5 seconds"?

Was it a warm or cold test?
