engine codes

i heard you guys say that d16z8 is an EX engine.
I have a 96 EX my engine code is d16y8.

I know it must be the difference is years.
So, what is the difference is years of those engines.

The USDM 6G EX's are D16Y8's, in some region's out there is the D16Z7 though which is essentially the same motor.
