Engine Bogging/Smoking

Engine Bogging/Smoking
Hello.. I have had an oil leak, believed to be from the front main seal.. I haven't had the money to fix it, so I have been just adding oil in it until I can get it fixed.. Two days ago, I added a quart of oil in and started my way home.. About two miles down the road, the car started bogging and smoke just erupted out from the tail pipe.. It was fine before I added the oil, but soon as I added the oil and drove down the road it did that. It's blue smoke.. Not white, not black. I started the car last night to see if it was still smoking and soon as I started it, it smoked right away. What could be the cause of this?? Someone that works on car's locally told me it could be the oil filter?? I figured I would ask you guys as you all know more than I do.. Any answers would be appreciated. Btw, its a 1997 honda civic ex auto.

Yes, a CEL came on, but don't want to drive it anywhere to have it hooked up.. A buddy comes back in from over sea's this weekend, I will have to see if I can borrow his computer.
Is it true that an oil filter being clogged can do this?
