EM1 Improved handling?
I drive a 00' EM1. I need some help improving the suspension on this thing. I want it handle similar to an EVO/STI or as close as it can get. As of now the car sits on a Tein 1 piece coilover.

EVO and STI are AWD. Your civic is FF. No matter what you do the the suspension it will never feel like an EVO/STI. Unless you convert it to AWD.

So in other words, you want it to understeer profusely? It's an EM1 - it should already do that quite well.
Just buy an Evolution or an Impreza STi if you want one so badly.

Get a crv 4wd driveaxles fab up some beefy differentials and you're good to go.
It's actually more commong than you think.
I'm trying to find the article with an ek with a b20z boosted with the AWD.
it was sick

Re: (Rainy City)
Get some Koni shocks, some Ground Control coilovers (tell Ground Control what you want to do with the car, preferences, etc. and ask them to recommend you the proper spring rates) and get an ITR rear sway bar with a good reinforcing brace/mount so that it doesn't tear the subframe. Then get some nice sticky tires and a good alignment and you'll be able to take corners as fast as those cars (except that you'll probably get tons of inside wheel wheelspin on tight corners).

Not necessarily.
Our shop-sponsored autocross car has everything listed there with the addition of an LSD, and has no problem besting most stock and modified "rally cars" with myself and the shop owner piloting.
A properly modded Civic will easily outhandle a stock Evo or STi. Don't forget that the main reason why those cars crank out good numbers in stock form is because they come equipped with DOT R-compound tires from the factory. The main advantages those cars have are the ability to fit huge rubber underneath (275 to 315mm in some cases) and the ability to put massive power to the ground. Their big disadvantages are weight, poor dynamic alignment due to the compromise of MacPherson struts for strength/durability, and the fact that very very few can drive them to the limit of the car's ability.
The Civic has the advantage of light weight and excellent dynamic alignment thanks to the double-wishbone suspension, plus the Civic is very easy to drive. The Civic's disadvantages are its complete lack of ability to put any sort of reasonable power to the ground and to fit more than 225mm wide DOT-R tires without significantly widening the track or killing the gearing. Hoosier's upcoming 275/35-15 A6 may change that though.
Either way, the BMW M3 is still besting both the Civics and the rally cars in National-level Street Modified class autocross competition. The moral of the story? Buy an M3

Re: (uneek360)
was that boosted AWD ek in honda-tuning a while back.? It sounds familiar but i dont recall where i heard it from.
To the OP, i suggest you get a bigger rear sway bar and sufficient bracing for the subframe and some a good shock/spring or coilover set up.
Also, make sure you invest in good tires as there is no point in spending all the money on the suspension if you tires arent going to be sticking it to the ground.

Guys I only metioned the evo and sti because they handle like crazy. I know i cant make my car handle like that because the drivetrains are completel different. I just want to eliminate some most understeer and make the car handle like as best as it can possibly can.

Then basically just start adding parts.
Strut/sway bars a good coilover setup or koni's.
H brace or front tie bar, traction bar, tower bar, roll cage wouldn't hurt. Bad-*** tires. Etc etc. The list goes on.

Re: EM1 Improved handling? (SRSLYJDM)
In that case. Get higher spring rate coilover with a good set of shocks. Bigger rear swaybar. H-brace diffinaly help alot. A set of sticky tires. RT-615 seem to be the best bang for buck $75 a piece 205/50 15.
It will out handle most evo/sti. Now it all depends on the driver.

Re: EM1 Improved handling? (kaiba)
Ok, I seriously doubt this guy will be taking his car to the track and racing evo's anytime soon so I believe some performance springs, struts, and a couple bars here n there will be enough for him.

How can I tell what is a good spring rate? On my Tein's there are numbers on the springs. How do I know these are good?
Are the koni yellows and gc's better than the Tein im riding on?

Re: (4thgenx42)
Which Tein do you have? I personaly using GC w/Koni sport shock. 435lbs in the front and 500lbs in the rear with 25mm front swaybar and 23mm in the rear along with AD048 tires.
I autox it and it hands down beat evo/sti on the autoX. However i don't know how good those driver are.
