I own a EM1 and I would say that if you are looking for something more comfortable than the ep3 is the way to go and it is also much newer with newer technology involved in the car.It also seems better built but the parts and cost for building and modding a EM1 are much easier and cheaper to come by and the wealth of local and online sources for information on how to build one is stacked in the EM1's favor.

^That's a real good point that needs to be taken into consideration.

ummm a k24 is cake to swap into an EP3 compared to an EJ8/EM1. Pretty sure a k24 would RAPE an EM1. Not worth it to get an Si honestly. I'd go EP without a doubt

why? a k24a2 does just fine, as does the a1 when matched with proper cams.

most of the pro posts for the em1s have no substance behind them, beside that ep3s are ugly, which is subjective. Give the OP some real reasons and facts why em1s are better, prove your point.

like siblues said there is more knowledge on the em1 side, parts are cheap and always available, noone likes having 4 dudes in one car anyway! em1 owns in all aspects of styling . the list can go on and on!

heres what i like about both cars:

EM1:
-its the only coupe i like. i hate every other car that is a coupe.
-i love the styling on the sixth-gen civics
-ive always been in love with EBP. i know some say its played out, but i like it.
-easier and cheaper to mod.
-i already have some parts i can swap over from my ej8
-more affordable in general

EP3:
-ive always wanted a hatch
-its newer, they usually have less miles too
-many around where i live are driven by moms, they are not beaten on
-unique look
-i actually like the shifter (?)
-VERY comfy interior

i'd like to add some things to my other reply. if i had no intentions of swapping motors, i'd stick with the em1. if was on a strict budget to mod the car (aesthetic appeal and power adders), i'd stick with the em1 as well...

with that said, if i had money to swap, i'd most likely take the ep3 with a k24a2.

My EM1 was def one of the most memorable cars I've owned. Some of my friend's have EP3s. I like them both. But I'd probably get another EM1 if it came down to it. Although hatches>coupes. Hrmmmph.

I personally prefer a em1. But I don't mind ep3's.

But for you I would maybe say ep3, a em1 is just a slightly faster version of your car with a couple minor things. A ep3 is a hatch like you want, and would still be faster than a ej8, and is probably easier to find in good condition with low miles. And em1's are way overpriced.

i vote Ep3.

better interior
more room
more tq
unique style

Ep3: K-series K20A3 engine rated 160 bhp (120 kW) at 6500 rpm and 132 ft·lbf (179 N·m) at 5000 rpm

Em1: 1.6-liter B16A2 engine that made 160 hp (120 kW) at 7,600 RPM and 111 ft-lbs of torque at 7,000 RPM

i personally feel the ep3 is a better built car all around.

So why not buy an EM1 and swap the k into that its just as easy. That wasnt the point of this thread it was to see what would be best in stock form.

I personally think the EM1 is a better buy if you are planning on modding. The difference in price between one and the other only plays to the EM1's favor.Just the price difference between the two can get you a swap or boost your car safely and if you are mechanically inclined it will get you even more. This is also coming from someone who owns an EM1 and wanted to buy an EP3.The EP3 to me is a better choice if you are going to pretty much drive around in and lightly modify it.You first have to figure out where you want the car to be when you are done with it.Then that will help you figure out which one is better for you.

If you are tired of not having power, an EM1 or ep is NOT the way to go.

I am a former EM1 owner with a lot of experience behind its wheel (+200whp build NA street car). I love them inside and out.

The next car I want to get is def an EP3. A lot of my reasons have already been mentioned. But the fact is you're buying used. An EM1 has been around the block, the chasis is over a decade old. I somehow also aged during this time - therefore, I can't drive a car that needs tinkering. If you're wanting an EM1, you're also talking about a potential swap (if it doesn't have one already). And of course, as everyone knows, the EM1 is a good base for that, but that's not the point here because the EP3 is just as tuner-friendly. I am certain an EP3 will be in better condition than an EM1 these days and that's def worth the extra $500 or so.

If i already owned an EJ8 and wanted to upgrade i sure wouldnt get an EM1. It would be more logical just to swap the engine on the car you got. But if youre lookin for a new car, there arent too many EPs runnin around so id say test drive one and see how it feels. The price sure has dropped on them in the last year or so and not to mention that cool lookin shifter.

just to be clear with everyone: the reason im not swapping my ej8 is cause i dont have the funds to. if i were to swap my car, id do a k20. the only reason im going to be able to afford an ep3 or an em1 is to sell my car and use that money along with the 2k or so im going to have saved up by the end of summer.

ive driven an ep3 before and i love it! i heard the 5-lug ones are the ones you want to buy. is this true? the only thing is, the ones i find around me are too expensive. like 9k or something like that. i have found 4-lug versions for about 5-6, which is my price range.

(milage doesnt matter to me )
