Electrical craziness 98 civic
So I purchased a 98 Civic EX all original and unmodified yesterday
Looked the car over pretty well but on the way home I noticed 3-4 things that
I would like to trace down and address, they are all electrical related
The car had a salvage title because the car was a stolen recovery the key switch didnt appear to be mangled
1.when turning the key to ON the dash lights lit up but no "beep"
after car is running you can turn the headlights OR the park lights on and it goes
beep 3 times as if turning key to on , the beeps will come back at random times if you turn the headlights back off but cease when headlights remain ON
2. one headlight is dim and BROWN I thought it may be the lamp but when you turn on brights it slowly dims to nothing then comes back when you go to normal
I think I recall seeing this before
3. windshield wipers operate but when you turn them off they dont reset level with windshield like supposed to they STOP dead in their tracks wherever they are
I removed the steering wheel column cover and inspected the wiring from the switch to the fusebox everything looks as factory nothing cut or homemade run wires
any advice besides selling it lol

Re: Electrical craziness 98 civic
also noticed that the seat belt light stays on when the seat belt is attached
this may have something to do with the beeping

Re: Electrical craziness 98 civic
Take a look under the steering column with a flashlight to see if anything looks strange (broken wires, alarm modules that were tampered with, etc.). Inspect the fuse panel in the car, as well as inside the engine bay. See if anything obvious is going on. Otherwise, I'd say having a technician performing electrical diagnostics would be a hell of a lot more efficient than trying to put together the pieces in a forum, on this particular issue at least.

Re: Electrical craziness 98 civic
For now if I could just locate that annoying beep unit and unplug it
rather annoying as it beeps erratically while driving
I think after I figure out why the seat belt light goes off it will help with the beeping
but Id love to unplug the thing for now

Re: Electrical craziness 98 civic
You have to remove the beeping device inside the under-dash fuse box. Soldering/Desoldering skills a must. Easier way is to unplug the connector under your seat. But be sure to look for an open/exposed/bad wire as this may cause more problems in the future if you let it be. Download a service manual for your car, check the electrical section, look at the wiring diagram, check as you follow EACH wire of the affected unit. E-tape(i suggest soldering and shrink tubes) damaged wire.
