that's because foreign Hondas are non-conforming to federal safety and emissions standards, and it's illegal to import them here.

Nah, it's possible to LEGALY import foreign cars. You just need to find the right resource to do it. Which, unless you know someone in the field, will mean lots of expenses.

Have you ever imported a car? I have. Call the NHTSA office of safety and compliance office at (202)366-5291 and ask them about importing a car that's not on the eligibility list. It has to be petitioned onto the list by an RI which costs a lot of money, and you typically have to do crashtesting of the vehicle. takes a long time, and lots of money. that's why there aren't any RHD hondas on the eligibility list.
For more info on importing foreign vehicles please do your homework by reading up on relevant info here:
http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/rules/import/
Edit: too harsh originally

LOL, yes I have sold IMPORTED Japanese cars (96 Spec ITR, EG6, EF8) legaly in the United States.
But then again, you're just a newbie who weren't on this board when I advertised them for sale.
Please keep your vulgar language to yourself, you heathen.

There is no way in hell you legally imported and sold those vehicles. I can guarantee you if NHTSA was tipped off about your sale of these vehicles you would be in a lot of trouble, and the new owners of the cars would probably have them confiscated. Have you ever even talked to NHTSA?
I don't care if the cars were legally registered in any state, they are not federally legal unless you got special one time permission from NHTSA/DOT and EPA for them to be here permanently.
What box did you check on the HS-7 form when you imported them?
P.S. I already edited my original post because I realized it was not the right tone i wanted to convey. Oh, and my true post count is closer to 2600 since it was reset to 0 right around 1000 original posts, i'm not the "newbie" you claim me to be.

It still has to brought through customs somehow, and they don't just let you bring a car straight through if it is non-conforming. It would have to be snuck through customs as parts or something which is breaking federal law in a big way.

heh, not compared to a lot of others, but yes, sitting at a desk all day with not a whole lot to do tends to encourage a little PW'ing. seriously though, how did you bring the cars you sold through customs, and did you sell them with US titles or just the japanese titles?

Didn't do much of the importing, just the sale.
Japanese titles, "kit car" registration in the states.

Re: EK4 JDM honda navigation system ??? (mr2kqql)
Couldnt you just order the part # from someone/someplace overseas? Ive see people with passats that order the euro navigation system and antenna either new or from a wrecked car then install them over here and they work.
