Okay, so you have a SPOON oil cap, SPOON wristbands on your reservoirs, and a SPOON intake piece that probably performs no better than what you replaced. And you did all this because the stuff is made by SPOON? Well, if you have money, then I guess...

Other than that, nice car.
Quit being a hater. I'll agree, the Spoon oil cap would be just for looks, but you have seen the above pics, at least I hope so. The whole point of the carbon elbow is to allow you to bypass the resonator. There is method behind this madness. It is pretty much common knowledge by now that the Honda intake systems were, for the most part with a few rare exceptions, very well designed. The intake on the Si was designed very well with only a few flaws, added for the average consumer, and they take up a little power. Honda made a compromise. The intake arm is well designed in terms of lenght and diameter, and the stock airbox was designed very well also. The box actually flows air very well. The only two bottlenecks, so to speak, in the system are the resonator and the stock paper filter. The resonator is on the car for one purpose and one purpose only, to eliminate intake honk. That's it. The resonator does this very well, however, in the process of doing this it robs power due to the many twists and turns that the incoming air takes. By eliminating this, you can have the filter straight from the box and into the intake arm much quicker and at a greater velocity. That's where the Spoon intake peice comes in. The other restiction in the system is the stock filter. This is there to cut costs. A paper filter is less expensive to make and mass produce than one made of foam or cotton gauze. Of course, the foam and cotton gauze performs much better than paper. So, by eliminating this resonator and adding the drop in, you have created an intake system that flows much more efficiently than stock as well as AEM. Look at many of the touring car racers, such as the RealTime Acuras and Roger Foos old EG. They were all using a modified stock system in place of the CAI. Foo, used the stock box and a K&N drop in for a long time. In his last races, he switched to the comptech Icebox (which again, utilizes an air box that is pretty much like the stock Integra box). The Real Time acuras all use stock intake arms mated to a stock NSX box, with no resonator of course. They use Comptech foam drop ins. Also, look at the Polophony Digital S2000 from Japan. They use the stock S2000 airbox and arm, minus the resonator, and a Spoon foam drop in filter. With these set ups, they not only get the high end and midrange associated with the use of a CAI, but they also reserve some of the low end torque as well. Even though Hondas are not prided on their torque making abilities, every little bit helps.

4doorRS5spd..... VERY WELL SAID!!!!! now... why couldnt have i read something like this before i bought a cold air? good info!!

maybe u can use a short ram intake elbow to bypass the resonator on an si.... rather than spending $210 on the spoon piece.... just a thought.

Thanks man. That is basically the concept behind the Comptech Icebox. You have the mandrel bent piping going to the airbox to protect the filter from the hot engine air. Check out http://www.comptechusa.com Also check out http://www.spoon-sports.com

The setup that I'm using in my Integra is the stock intake arm, stock box, removed resonator, and a Spoon Sports drop in filter. However, before people start hating... I bought my filter barely used, from a friend who also had an Integra. I didn't pay too much for it Also, I'm not an advocate of Spoon or the bandwagon, or whatever, I just do to my car, what works best for me. Function before form.

I have seen a few instances, in fact I think there was a post in this forum about it, where a Civic guy has shoehorned an Integra box to replce the EG/EK one. The only difference I can see in doing this, would be the fact that the Teg box uses a cone filter, instead of a panel one. I don't think that horsepower wise it makes a difference between the two. However, if you are going to look for a Teg airbox, don't let anyone sucker you into getting a "Type R" box. They are all the same. The LS, RS, and GSR and Type R all use the same box. However, the resonator system is different on the Type R. There is less tubing for the air to go through. However, for our concerns, that resonator wouldn't fit into a Civic anyway, considering that it is designed to suck air from the side of the fender well.

Actually I did feel a difference but I cant hate on spoon because I am a mugen freak. So i understand that cost and performance are not the only things that matter when buying parts.

proove to me that a Spoon carbon fiber piece makes more power than an AEM cold air. show me some dyno plots that shows the "gains" of this spoon piece.
