ej7attack's f22b2 97 civic hx budget build.
hey honda-tech. well i guess the title would explain what im doing pretty well so ill start off with showing the cancer ridden subject.
here she is! my dd.
..
i have done most everything involving getting the motor ready for the install including gaskets, headwork, timing belt, water pump, etc. here is what i have now.
f22b2 motor and corresponding ecu.
f22ax trans.
shifter assy and linkage.
ebay steel h/f swap mounts.
xtd stage 1 clutch.
alum rad with slim fan.
90-93 accord int shaft.
wire harness' for both vehicles.
still need.
90-93 teg cv axles L+R.
f22a ds engine mounting bracket.
various hoses,clamps,etc.
suspension.
possible rear disk swap.
m10x1.25 tap and 11/32 drill.
f tranny mounting holes drilled and tapped.
turbo?
why not h22? well, imo i think the f22 has potential. plus they are all over junk yards around me. but im not canceling out an h22. when this thing blows up or i find a good deal, ill pretty much be able to drop it right in.
let me know what you all think!!

I'm not really a fan of SOHC whenever there's a DOHC option available, but the F is a fun motor (and doesn't have FRM sleeves). Are you planning on staying stock on the motor, or are you going to be giving it some go fast pieces?

this motor is staying stock for now..my ultimate goal is to keep this thing emissions legal, and have a lil more power over the d series. i also like the torque these motors provide.

Hey man. My daily driven f swapped ek should be done soon. We keep running into fitment problems.
My eBay mounts didn't fit. Not even close. Not knocking copy mounts - used them a few times before with no problem but these ones weren't even close. As for the tranny mount - when I got innovative steel mounts - it fit perfect. No needfor any modification.
The f22a6 supposedly feels faster than a gsr - stock for stock. That's the best flowing f head. Your f22b will be strong. No worries on power.
Now mine is f23 head with f22 block. I've been reading alot about these but the real world experience I have - bout 3 years ago a friends 95 accord took a dump. We swapped a f22 vtec head and block - only put arp head studs. Stock hg. Car saw 14 psi DAILY...I thought that was the end of it.
Yesterday my buddy told me he ended up working on dudes car. He turned the boost to 20 - snapped an axle - had extra money - decided to go h...and the h22 bombed on him all motor.
I have yet to actually see/hear of one REALLY bombing (f series that is). Ivan g on here has one and even with "issues" his motor still runs strong.
For the price - as long as you don't mind the wiring fiasco - f series is a great idea...400 dollar or less swaps...can't beat that with a stick!!
I'm tuned in to this. - good luck and keep us updated.

Re: ej7attack's f22b2 97 civic hx budget build.
First off, thanks for the interest fellas.
I've been anticipating this build for sometime and finally have the funds to do so. Now that i have pretty much close to everything i have to make sure mounts and brackets will work with motor and tranny.
here is some of what i got.
Attachment 318171.
Attachment 318172.
Here are some different brackets. In this picture the transmission t bracket on the LEFT is the one you need with these swap mounts. I believe any 90-97 accord with manual tranny will supply this bracket.
Attachment 318174.
These pics are of passenger side transmission mount.
Attachment 318175.
Attachment 318176.
You cant see but where the bolts are supposed to go are not drilled and tapped. This i believe will only have to be done to f series trannys, maybe besides the the prelude s? correct me if im wrong. Here is a closer look at what needs drilled and tapped.
.
Well, off to the jy tomorrow to find some parts! Im really wanting to get this thing in soon.

Cool swap, I had an acura cl with the f22 and all bolt-ons and this thing was quick. Always wondered what it could do in a lighter chassi like the civic

Re: ej7attack's f22b2 97 civic hx budget build.
the mounts just were like a quarter of an inch off all the bolt holes...then the mounts wouldnt fit in the brackets. once i modified them to fit...the motor placement was AWFUL...the axles never would have had a chance...especially with modified suspension.

dang! we will see how it goes here. got my ds engine mounting bracket yesterday..i dang near could have pulled the motor in the time it took me to get that bracket!
KPDSM your startiin to scare me! lol j/k . ive never really swapped a motor in something else before. ive replaced motors in cars but, never a different motor in different car.
so this is somewhat new to me.

did those pics of bracket show up,not on mine for some reason.
the b2 bracket is the smaller bolt pattern and will not work.

after a long week and weekend, got a couple more things done.
installed the flywheel and clutch, and swapped the inner cv joints to the accords.
these axles are remans from autozone. 93 teg 1.8 L+R

Bench racing. Don't do it. Try a Google search on a similar setup and look for dyno results. Also it seems odd you would do a build and not have an idea of how it's going to perform. If you did, you never said.

Re: ej7attack's f22b2 97 civic hx budget build.
my intention was to explore peoples setups and what theirs does for them. i know what this motor is capable of in stock form. i can see by how many posts you have, you spend a lot of time here criticizing people and their builds. didnt your parents teach you that if you dont have anything nice to say dont say it at all? must not have. also im sure there are more people on here with setups on their car without a youtube video..thanks for your interest in what im doing and the questions im asking.

Re: ej7attack's f22b2 97 civic hx budget build.
ok lets tally up the numbers!
f22b2 motor- $200
cyl head clean and resurface- $75
head gasket kit- $180
f series trans- $80
shifter assy and linkage- $20
all axles- $170
ecu- $20
new oil pan,t.belt,waterpump- FREE (traded)
h/f swap mounts- $125
alum rad w/ slim fan- $80
xtd stage 1 clutch-$85
that right there brings me to $1035.
then im going to add $200 for fluids, hoses, fittings, etc.
with a grand total of $1235
not too bad,but im sure it will pay off!
thanks everyone for tuning in. swap to happen in a week or two.
