EG Civic/Del Sol vs CRX
mmm key, I am an owner of a clean 91 CRX Si and can't even look at other older (before 1997) Hondas/Acuras. However, I've been offered trades for EG Civic and Del Sol.
Please, convince me why they'd better than CRX.
Thanks

Re: EG Civic/Del Sol vs CRX (Anti-Bush RRREX)
I own an EF and two EGs, and IMO I like the EGs better.
The EGs seem to be more solid all around, and they don't have those damn radius rods that usually creak and **** like the EFs do. also Efs are notorious for random beepings and **** because of those retarded-*** seatbelts that are mounted in the doors of late 89-91 models. Also EFs are not as light as everyone thinks unless they are 88-early 89 models with belts in the car rather than on the doors.
I love my EF because of the sentimental value (it was my first car) and it's been a great car, but if I had to choose one car to drive every day stock vs. stock or mildly modded it'd be an EG hands down.
I can also go into what makes the EG superior in terms of swapping and whatnot as well...

i agree I would prefer an eg as well over my ef but.... rexs are so rare right now imo they are almost collectors items. Especially if they are stock.

Re: (kaoss_11)
.. i mean is there a significant difference in advantages of CRX design and materials vs EG/DelSol? For instance I'm not crazy about Del Sol design (esp the trunk, etc) and EG looks too much "plastic" and too feminine ... Maybe I'm missing something.
And I don't compare EF to EG. Ef is not exactly CRX.
Do you at least agree with the Consumer guide?
EG Civic:

DelSol:

Re: (Anti-Bush RRREX)
I hate Del Sols, so my answer there is "No" I would not trade a CR-X for a Del Sol unless the CR-X is haggard and the Del Sol is in excellent condition.
A CR-X is an EF. Mechanically speaking they are identical, so IMO there is no difference.

well, that's not an advantage. CRX/EF are older and much rarer than EG but comparatively the number of posts per car would be much much higher
My CRX is in a good clean stock condition and I was wondering whether I should store it over the winter, trade it for EG Civic/Del Sol in a similar condition or sell it.

Everyone in here has good points and facts but what it boils down to is how bad you want the rex or eg. The del sol i dont know its a little weird looking like its incomplete or something but who cares what i think its your preference

I own an 89 SI hatch and a 93 Del Sol. I have to say I don't really like the hatch anymore because of the interior, compared to the sol it sucks. The sol is built around the passengers.
If I was you I would try out what you are thinking about trading for, and go for what you like the best.

I love the CRX interior as it's built around the driver. What I'm trying to do is to get an idea on how the two compare. I haven't seen any discussion on the web comparing CRX and del Sol ...

Re: EG Civic/Del Sol vs CRX (snatch13)
Aside from the occasional targa top sounds, I love the feel of my sol versus the ef hatch I used to own..
If you are planning on modding your car for drag, I have been told that the EG chassis is the way to go because of its width and weight distribution compared to the older EF chassis (from a local shop mechanic, i am not saying this is fact, nor my opinion).,
The ability to swap motors without custom mounts is also a plus (aside from H-series?) With efs you need custom mounts even for the common b-series swap.. in egs all you have to do is buy stock integra mounts, or purchase them with the motor for dirt cheap. Also, for hatches/coupes/sedans, you can use the stock b-series shift linkage in a swap, in crxs custom linkage is needed...
There are other things that are needed for this swap too.. if cable to hydro, custom axles, obd* wiring, etc...
If you truly love the car, you will do what it takes to successfully perform the mods that you desire for your car.. So it is really up to you.. Afterall, while stock they are all underpowered, slow, and ride like ***... lol

That's kinda harsh man, I love my vtec del sol. I'm not going out and beating corvettes or s2k's or anything, but I don't really think I'd call it underpowered. Gets me going fast enough to get in trouble! That's all I wanted!

Re: EG Civic/Del Sol vs CRX (Falqon)
Reality is harsh
Who cares what I think or say as long as you are happy with your car?
I would be happy with a Del Sol VTEC too.. But I am even happier with my Del Sol LS (only because of the price, because I am far from happy with the condition of the car - see my sig.. lol)

Thats just plain stupid..
What exactly do you think makes them a girls car?
Of all the del sols in my area(about 10-15), only 2 of them are driven by females.. One is a senior citizen, the other, a high school student.. The rest are driven by males..

gah, ive given up defending the del sol. let em think whatever they want. they're just jealous that we have the exact same chassis, but we feel better and look better doing it

EG all the way, I have to of them and EG6 and an EG9 and I wouldn't trade them for a dc2,or a DB8 . CRX's are played out, they look like ****, and obd O sucks big time, that why it uses all those wack *** vac. lines.

Del Sols feel cramped on the inside, and I'm only 6' tall. The driving/seating position I prefer isn't allowed in the confines of the Del Sol interior because the seat back doesn't go as far back as an EG or EF.
As far as EF vs. EG goes in general, 90civichb touched on some of the points I'd make about them.
I posted a long list of the pros and cons in terms of EG vs. EF a while back, but I'll just give a brief list:
A. B series engine swaps.
EGs are way easier - period.
The EF requires a lot more work to get a B series swap into it, especially if you get a dual-point injected model such as the DX, LX or STD models. The dual point models make up the MAJORITY of the EFs, which means you'll likely end up with one, which sucks.
The EF requires custom mounts which cost at least $300.00 if you want QUALITY ones. All of the kits are solid, which means you get hella vibrations at idle and it will never feel as smooth as stock mounts will. Some people will say this is a stupid reason to be a "con" because "stiffer is better" but some people want their cars to stay nice without rattling their brains out at idle. My wife's 1992 B16A2 hatch is a perfect example of a very civil hybrid.
You also have to beat in the driver's side frame rail to clear the B series alternator pulley, and you have to notch and fold the rear cross member as well in order to get the mount kits to bolt in. This is minor, but it is extra **** that the EG doesn't require.
The EFs also either employ older, shittier first-gen B16A/LS swaps or you pay upwards of $500 for the proper mount kit with hydro conversion kit to use the newer, better hydro-tranny'd swaps.
Pre-OBD can lick my *** as you have to convert to OBD1 to run Hondata or the ever-popular and cheap re-chipped P28 ECUs.
It is impossible to keep A/C without a custom mount bracket in an EF with a B-Series engine, and again that costs more money.
You almost always have to run a slim A/C fan also if you want to keep A/C because the stocker won't clear a B series header.
If you run any sort of custom header or even sometimes an off the shelf header for a B series then you have to notch the front cross member due to clearance issues.
Ground clearance and/or hood clearance for a B18 block in an EF is sketchy.
If you were blessed enough to get a DX or an HF model Ef then you must also swap front spindles to accomodate the larger outer joint splines of B series axles, or even SOHC Si axles.
If you got a dual point model the wiring is no fun at all. This would be my #1 reason why the EF is such a pain in the ***. when you want a hybrid you want a light hybrid, so you go for the base models. The hatchback base models, the STD and Dx, have the oh-so-shitty dual point fuel injection.
To convert to the right 4 injector set-up you must find a multi-point engine harness and hack your stock dual-point harness and also add an injector resistor box too. Then you will have a number of repins at thge ECU plugs as well since dual point and multi point ECUs have a lot of different pin locations.
I'm sure there's more, which i'll gladly add later.
So that's the extra BS for a B series swap into an EF, what else could there be that makes an EF a bit less desirable than an EG? Let's see...
H22A Swaps are a shitload easier in an EG than in an EF.
There are choices with an EG when it comes to mount kits that make the H22A a relatively easy swap in an EG. I'd say it's even a bit easier to do an H22A swap into an EG rather than a B seris into an EF.
If you want an H22A in an EF then get your welder and cutting torch ready! That's all I have to say about that.
I've got to run right now, but I'll be back with more...

You have a wierd driving stye my friend, all of the reviews that I read before buying the car talked about how spacious the interior was for the 2 people. I'm 6'2 and I don't even have the seat all the way back. It's the first car that I can remember driving in where I can have my legs fully extended passenger side and barely touch carpet. Plus Sol seats are much better, I love the support.
I'll stop arguing on this thread now, it's pointless. Somebody mentions their opinion, and then somebody else is saying something completely different. Best thing is for you to figure out what you like, cause you don't wanna go around driving what somebody else likes.
