Re: Dyno shop grenaded my NEW engine.
ON A DIFFERENT NOTE:
I AM REBUILDING!
I purchased a b18c1 shortblock
And
I purchased a 99, b16 head. Freshly machined, hot tanked, milled .04, and got a valve job. SPOTLESS head.
Question about it- should I put the supertech dual valve springs and those GSC n2 cams in, or run it stock?
Ive got gsr cams still

Re: Dyno shop grenaded my NEW engine.
GUYS!!!!!
AMAZING NEWS!!!!
I BEAT THEM IN COURT!!!
i didnt get the full 5k, but i won a judgement of $1400 and his shop has negligence lawsuit loss on his record.
the shop owner had absolutely no clue what hit him too- no defense, no nothing.
he thought i was going on the offense with the uncalibrated dyno and passing the redline.
i went for incorrect installation which led to the catastrophic failure my engine occurred.
the judge overlooked the dyno waiver as my vehicle was running perfectly fine before it arrived there.
my case was the fact i provided the cam sheet to the owner, who he then said it wouldnt be needed.
after asking the tech himself what he set the valve adjustments to, he wrote down the OEM specs. 006/008 in writing. he speced them while cold too. (under 100F)
the cam sheet specified 008/008 HOT (operating temp). i provided photos of the damage (coincidentally the intake valves were the incorrect spec, showing damage in all four cylinders.
this alone was enough for the judge. the #BLAMEMIKE decal he slapped on my windshield was icing on the cake.
since i won the lawsuit and ive been quiet about the name of the shop that destroyed my motor, im now owing myself some relief....
I WOULD HIGHLY ADVISE STAYING AWAY FROM KINETIC AUTOWORKS IN MILLERSVILLE MD.
justice has been served.
you cant just take peoples cars' in without having a care for what happens. i hope this was a valuable lesson. you were responsible for destruction of my dream cars first engine swap. the engine i hand picked the parts for. the engine build that almost cost me the relationship with my gf.... almost my dealership job because i went without a car..... the car ive wanted since i was in the third grade... rendered it usless and spit in my face.
well, the tables have turned, and i even said i didnt want to take it to court...but no... this judgement will directly fund my current build, a b18c1 / b16 head.

If you let your project car stop you from getting to your job, or infecting your personal relationships, then regardless of what other factors are at play, that's your fault and not the fault of the shop or the car itself.
Good luck with your current build. I would encourage you to re evaluate some of your priorities and plan better for when things go wrong.

So, what I've learned is, don't be broke. Semi broke gf will dump me if I stress her out. Never work on my primary ride, never expect someone to loan me their ride if mine is down.

I rode a god damned BMX bike to work in the winter to build my 1992 CX back in 2002. If you have the desire to make it happen, then you'll make it happen. I have no regrets, but if I wasn't willing to ride a bike to work then I would not have taken my only car down for such an intricate build back then. Gotta be smarter about this ****.

Glad it worked out. $1400 is fair enough. Valuable lessons learned, but next time you decide to run big aftermarket cams, be sure to check P-V and V-V clearances (VTEC Locked) before hitting the dyno.
