Default Drove the beast... :)

Hey everyone - its been a few weeks since I posted on the progress of my D Mod monster.
https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=481280

Since that time I've finished everything up except for the exhaust. I was up at the garage the other day and just could not control myself, so I took her out down a country road...

The specs - not sure what it weighs in at, but I am guessing less than 1800lbs. Fully built B18C1 (Toda B's, 12.5:1, lots of head work, etc.....).

I had VTEC disabled - since I have not done any tuning I did not want to risk leaning out on the big lobes so I diabled the VTEC system. I only took the revs up to 7800 which seemed to be where the power started to drop off on the small lobes.

The power from 2000 on up to 7800 is sick. I was shocked at how quickly I moved through the first 3 gears... which makes me wonder how useful the big lobes are going to be. I wish I had a speedo so I could see how quickly the needle was moving

The braking was unreal with all of the weight out of the car. I was on race tires, but was only running a Hawk HP pad on GSR size rotors. The plan is to run ITR front brakes with HP Plus pads. I can't even imagine how that will feel.

I just went down the road and back in a straight line and didn't take any turns. I was running an open header which I am sure could be heard miles away. Fearing the police chasing me I kept my run to about 5 minutes total and put her back in the garage.

First race will be June 15.... I'll post some pictures sometime this week if I have time.

Sounds like fun I remember when I first swapped in my b16 before I finished painting it. Same scenario- open header, no VTEC, except I had no doors, windows, hatch, lights. So extremely light weight with no tach or speedo- that thing hauled ***. And I'm sure your b18 is muuuch more torquey and powerful. Good luck!

haha, wait till you dyno it, and drive it afterward. You're going to love those big lobes. Can't hear a difference when it hits, but as the rev's climb, you can feel it . When I drove my friends hatch w/ITR motor and B's to get dyno'd, it was incredible, the transition is silky smooth, it just keeps pulling and pulling

That's awesome. Glad your happy with it. Thats basically the setup I'll be running, 12.5:1, but I'm still undecided between B's or Jun III's....

quick queston, in your link to your thread with all the pics it looks like you have a battery box in the passenger side where the seat would be and you still had a battery in the engine bay, do you have 2 or is that black box in the car something else?

love the car man!!!

Awesome work.

Nice to see something coming out of Wisconsin like this, instead of the normal CA, TX, etc.

great stuf man. I wish I was at that stage already. Except the car wouldn't have been back in the garage for a long while.

Can you say how much you've spent on the car so far?

Why did you relocate the battery?

many race cars have relocated batteries for weigh distribution purposes, but ill let him reply on the real reason he did this. less weight taken from the front is my guess. same thing as a cf hood or something.
