dropped a cyl + lots of steam from exh. HELP pls!!
i pulled the plug wire and #2 is not running but it has spark. then it started running hot. i let it cool down and added water. let it run for about 20 minutes and it didnt get hot again but there is tons of white smoke(steam) coming out of the exhaust. so im guessing the headgasket? i dont know any way of checking this other than pull the head off.
is there a way to determine what happen w/o pulling the head?
should i change the plug and see if it fires?
any advice is much appreciated thanks in advance to everyone!!!!

do a compression test it will not guarentee that the gasket is damaged but if you have low compression in that cyc it is more than likely

you can have the coolant tested for exhaust gasses if they are pressent then its the headgasket

im going to do a compression test in the morning.
if the comp is low then more than likely it is the headgasket?

Forget the compression test, you know you dont have good compression,do a leakdown. Using a leakdown tester, place each cylinder at TDC. Remove the radiator cap and watch for the coolant level to rise. If it rises while pressurising a cylnder at TDC,you have a bad gasket. Foolproof way to diagnose a bad gasket!
