Default driveshaft, lower ball joint disintegrate...

So last night I was driving home from the liquor when I go over a man hole cover and clunk jkkkkkkkkkkkkkk, stop. My axle inner joint expoded and my lower ball joint cracks into pieces. Last fall I had replaced my driveshaft with a napa unit that is still under warranty, I am not sure if it was the reman or the new with a lifetime but either way I am still covered there. The questions I have are that was it my ball joint that failed that caused an axle fail or vice versa. Also, my wheel was dragging at 90 deg,so do you think my tie rod was bent, my current plan is to assume no and go from there. (or)Could the failure have occured due to over tightening of the lower ball joint, I dont think I did any how...Thoughts appreciated.

If it was a big enough pothole, everything could have been straight in your suspension and it just a tough break. From what you described though, I am betting the ball joint went first and the sudden downward smash [freak]ed the axle. NAPA should definately replace it though, if by last fall you mean fall of 2007.

your ball joint failed first. Then, the inner CV axle started to come out of the cup and as it reached the edge it exploded the cup.

Did that twice on my sway on my B16 because the axles i put in were too short

Since this seemed so violent could my clutch or transmission have been damaged?

unless it touched the ground, your transmission is fine. The LCAs might be scuffed tho, just have a look.
