Default driver side wheel play when jacked up...

i was replacing my ball joint boot on my 92 civic dx today. i was also checking to see what else needed replacing. i recently replace my steering rack with one from a 94 integra with 113k miles because my old one needed a full rebuild and it was recommended i just replace it. everything is good with that except i might need to replace the outer tie rods soon since one got a pinhole in the boot and the drivers side one is a little more loose than the pass side.

anyways, when i grab the wheel at 8 o clock and 3 o clock and shake it side to side, there seems to be a lot of play. it's not coming from the tie rod. it's coming from the actual hub. now, i was thinking wheel bearing, but wouldn't that be loud when i drive? i just did a 300mi round trip at 80-90mph and it was smooth as hell. when i replaced my ball joints, i had to remove the dust cover for the bearing , but i know i put it back on right. could it be the cv joint?

I recently had the same issue, mine didn't make a lot of noise, but it did ding when I'd hit any kind of bump. At first it was hardly noticable, but it got louder and louder untill I had it replaced. No more noise, no more play

Could be a tie rod end. Free play in the wheel is usually because of that.

does your car jump around when you turn corners? if so, its the wheel bearings...if not, check the tie rod ends

i have the same problem, i grabbed the wheel the other day (while jacked up), and i had some play too. it does seem to be from the hub. looked around as i was shaking it to see if it was my ball joints, but they seem fine. i was guessing to if it was the axles.

mine makes almost like a choppy noise (like a helicpoter in the distance). especially where the road bends.

i just replaced my lower ball joints, so i know it's not that. im just wondering if a bad cv joint would cause this. im replacing my tranny soon , so i could just get new ones when i do that.
