Default Dome light doesn't work

(Gee I sure wish I had a '96-'99 Civic, then I'd just go splice the green wires on the stock stereo harness plug.....)

Some details:
-'92 Civic LX sedan auto (plz don't laugh).
-Aftermarket deck installed 5 years ago. Yanked it recently to find NO green plug to jump wires. <sigh>It was worth a try.
-Dome light works in "on", but not when either front doors are open.
-Continuity tests on the door & dome switches were negative (they work).
-Fuses are all good.
-May/may not be related, but 3 yrs ago some electrical gremlins shut down my brake lights, shifter interlock mechanism, and horn simultaneously. Never figured out why. I had to jerry-rig a fix for those. Dome light fubar may have coincided.

Wiring diagrams point to Integrated Control Unit as a usual suspect, but other things that run thru there work fine so I dunno if it's worth tearing that open. Is the ICU something that you can unplug easily (if you're hudini behind dash) and work on? Is it a printed circuit board like the dash-light dimmer switch? Other thoughts/ideas/troubleshooting tips?

Well maybe you should go back and fix the original problem. Brake lights and shift interlock inop is most likely a brake light switch.

You mean that continuity was positive right? Because if it was negative there would be no connection?

You have the wiring diagrams, this should be a piece of cake. Just look at the part that is not working properly and test the related components and wiring in between.

You are not going to be able to open and repair a module. Especially if you can't figure out even the simplest of circuits on a diagram. (i.e. Brake light circuit)

Thanks for your reply and obvious warm welcome mat. Yes I agree that the orig. problem should be fixed, and every reasonable attempt was made to do so. A shiney new $40 brake light switch from the local dealer in '03 didn't fix the brake light/interlock problem.
Oh, on the +/- test, I'm in the cardiac field (and should stick to it, I know) and negative tests mean that a test fails to indicate a problem. Sorry for the confusion.

Has anyone removed their ICU temporarily for testing purposes?

Never mind about the ICU; I bought a spare one (also a '92) at a Junkyard for $2, simply swapped it into my car= no improvement. The troubleshooting process continues.
I'll post the culprit when I find it. I just can't believe that this dome light problem is unique to my rig and not other EG owners out there in tech-land.
