Default dohc zc in an ek?

i wanna try something different.

besides, a dohc is an inherently better design- thanks for the input though

off the top my head the hardest things should be the ecu, harness wiring, and finding cams for it

anyone else out there?

[ i see most dohc zc's in crx's ]

The ZC's were produced till 2000 - DOHC is not an inherently better design - it adds a considerable mechanical complexity to an engine as well as significantly increased valvtraine mass - neither being optimal

it's how the engne is designed not wheather it's dohc or not

If your talking bout boost your making an expensive mistake here

That engine your talking about is going to be near 20 years old if it's an older model

i realize its a pretty damn old engine, but the fact that its dohc means i can control the individual intake and exhaust cam timings- i can control valve overlap. as for design, from what i've learned and seen on the dohc zc itself, its not too bad- a mild port & polish should do wonders.

have you boosted one of these yourself? not trying to be sarcastic, but realistically, for me this would be a pretty cost effective solution. building this up should cost about 1500 w/ hmt parts, plus tuning. start w/ 200 whp?

bump for experience?

not all zc's are DOHC, either. if you don't already have the engine make sure you check that out, first!!

my old turbo zc ran a 13.5 at palmdale in a fully loaded ef with a hybrid zc lsd gear box on a greddy turbo kit with the manifold ported to match the exhaust ports

And then it blew up

hp means jack **** on a old motor when going turbo - metal fatigue alone ***** things up at that point - Unless you plan on rebuilding the motor zc on boost in the hot cali summers sure to come on sucko 91 pump gas is a bad idea

They produced the DOHC ZC til 95 (92-95 OBD-1) in the Civic RTSi (4wd)

If converted to OBD-1 YES you can run this engine.

I've never seen one in an EK so if you run into any probs, you're on your own.

LIAM on the d16turbo site has an impressive build with an OBD-1 DOHC ZC.

ECU's you're left with the NON VTEC ECU (P06, P75 LS etc.)

OMG it makes absolutly no sense to use that old *** motor in a EK u'll run into a **** load of problems and prolly only get about the same whp as a boosted y7 or y8...i say sell that motor or put it in EF or Crx where it "belongs"!

thx for the info HumanResource & stormy.

i havent actually bought the motor yet, but i've seen it, and no one's probably gonna buy it

i'm planning on doing up the internals, and at the least inspecting the crank.

i dont wanna turbo my current y7- 1st and 2nd gear synchros are shot, and i might have a compression leak. besides, its my daily driver, so i've gotta get another engine cuz i cant have the car out of commission for too long.

i've heard that turbo doesnt play too well with older vtec units. some buddies of mine get mixed results. some swear by the y8 head, and others prefer non-vtec.

for the most part i've figured out the wiring, by crossreferencing guides and such. but i havent figured out any info about the axles or mounts. anyone out there with some solid info?

I don't see what these guys are talking about.a dohc is a much better motor to boost for the valve train tuning you mentioned. Can't do that **** with a sohc.I know my boy had a bone stock jdm zc motor with a hf manifold converted to hold a dodge sundance turbo and a 3"exhuast with homemade piping and an intercooler from a starion.I know, sounds bootleg as hell. The motor was installed in a 94 four door civic lx with an ex trans.he would eat up ls vtec civics ,mazda speed protoges and ran a 13.5 with a slipping clucth. so **** these guys,go for it.people will see it ,laugh, sleep on it,then get thier asses handed to them.good luck with your build
