Maybe performance isn't the right word in the title, but here's the question. My 97 civic used to be fine if I left the lights on or the radio on for more than an hour. I mean it will still start up fine. Well, I think I left the parking lights on one night when I went to bed and had to start my car up using cables. Well, ever since that event, if I leave my parking lights or headunit on for more than 10 minutes, it won't start up. The battery runs out of juice and I have to jump start it. I am wondering if that one time I let the battery go dead affected quality of the battery. Oh yeah, I did have my alpine 9807 installed a month ago. Does that take ALOT more juice from the battery than the stock one?Oh well, what are your thoughts?Thanks.

 

I know that killing the batter will reduce its lifecycle (unless you get a deepcycle battery)

 

IF it's servicable I'd check to be sure there is fluid in it...

If any of the cells are low just fill it with distilled water (no shop would bother using distilled water but it is best(It prevents corrosion which shouldn't really be a concern as it is a part that shouldn't really be used for that long))...

That's what I'm thinking I'm going end up having to do.

 

i think it does make the battery loose power a lot faster.

i left my lights on one day and killed the battery and ever since then, if i turn the car off and leave my radio on, it struggles to start up.

 

I left my parking lights on at school one day alll day! From like 7 to 2. Went to start my car, nothing happened, no fuel priming, no lights, nothing. So I tried to jump it with cables and it was getting a little more juice but still didnt start. So I ended up doing a rolling start and it started up and i let it run for like 20 minutes and everything was good. Im still sketchy to run my radio with the engine off. I'd suggest getting a new battery. I need one badly!

 

Ok... I HABITUALLY let my battery die...

If it does have any affect it's not serious or permenant...

If you run it at over 3k for 45 mins or so it will fully charge again... otherwise you'll have to hook it up to a slow charger...

If the fluid is low in the battery it will drain MUCH faster...

How long are you driving it at a time?

I had the original battery in my car (93) till about a year ago.. at which point I had let it run dry about 20-30 times... I had added water a couple times over the years...

I'd check the levels in the cells and if you have access to one slow charge your battery... it takes like an hour...

The battery could be bad but chances are not... batteries last a LONG time in cars... I've seen 70's and older cars with original batteries.
