Its not really necessary if you change your oil on a regular scheduled maintenance and only have bolt ons. I would definitely use it if forced induction is involved.

I've been running Mobil 1 since I boosted my hatch... It seems to burn a little oil with the synthetic... It goes through about half a quart every 3000 miles. I normally do my oil changes every 2000 so it is normally down about a quarter of a quart... I switched back to castrol gtx and it no longer consumes oil... I don 't know why that is but try it and see if it works for you...

Yeah, I don't know what you're talking about. Most people who use synthetic because it is better oil all together. Not because they have a higher performance engine. I got better gas milage and my car ran much smoother when I switched to Castrol Syntec. It doesn't burn any oil either.

I refuse to use Mobil 1 because of all the people who say their B or D series burns Mobil 1 all the time.

amsoil

ive gotta stock internalled B18B.. turbo setup.. synthetic oil doesnt break down as easy as non synthetic, and with the tempatures that the engine reached because of the turbo, you need something that has a higher breakdown point.. plus amsoil gaurentees their oil

I use Mobil 1 and my engine doesn't burn a drop. I go 10,000 miles between changes without adding. 90K on D series.

Don't waste your money on synthetic, its all hype, just like that freakin' crap they put in GM's and now FORD's to replace antifreeze, they use synthetic dexcool. Just do your oil changes with a good oil and you will get the same effects if you spent 4 more dollars a quart on synthetic. Just my .o2. I could be wrong about it being a complete waste of money, but I haven't seen it make a big difference.

I work at a company where we are testing performance engines on a regular basis. We have poven multiple times that Mobil 1 is the oil to use. We used to think that you had to break the engine in with standard oil and then switch to synthetic. Multiple times we pushed too hard with the standard oil in the engine and spun main bearings, rod bearings, etc. Take the same engine, replace the bearings, put Mobil 1 in and the bearing problems would go away.

We now start every dyno test with Mobil 1 in the engine whether it's a brand new engine, freshly rebuilt, or an old dyno mule.

I also use it in my D series - noticed an engine temp drop after replacing standard oil. Haven't gone as far as putting it in the lawnmower as others have mentioned.

I use synthetic oil for my car. Also where i work Jiffy Lube they told me that Mobil 1 makes the majority of the other companies synthetic oil also because the refineries cost too much, im not sure how true this is but im just throwing it out there.
