DIY: JDM EK9 CTR DOOR PANELS!!
lols..man, this project took me all day to do, but it was definitely alot of fun.. well, i dont know if u guys are gonna rank on me n call me a cheapskate for TRYING to make my own jdm door panels..but i see everyone diy their head lights and otherstuff..so why not take it a step further on something thats totally gonna cost so much more, eh?..mebbe u guys have da money for it..but i sure dont.. plus, it was my first diy project, and the outcome isnt too shabby, if i say so myself.. well heres some pix(hopefully it'll load)..let me know what u guys think!!

ok sorry it took so long for the write up, i wasnt sure if anyone would have been interested, but iguess so..so here it is!!
keep in my mind that this was a trial and error thing..and ofcourse, it probably wont look AS nice at the real ones, but itll come pretty damn close.. also, its madd work, and u will either like it, or u wont in the end..so be prepared!
MATERIALS NEEDED:
1) 3/4 yard of velvet, suede or whatever fabric u choose, but make sure its fairly thick, and sustainable to stains and dirt, in a shade of red that best matches the real ones.. ($5)
2)About 10 #10 sz3/4(or smaller if they carry them) screws from home depot ($2)
3)Screw driver
4) Exacto blade and extra blades,SHARP SHARP blades!
5) Double sided tape, YES, TAPE! Not the thin scotch ones..u need ones that are somewhat durable, but nothing tooooo strong.
SO HERE IT GOES!
STEP 1: After removing door panel you need to pry apart the piece with the grey upholstery on it,and to do so you will need to saw/cut the flat palstic pieces that holds that piece in place..there are about 16 of those things, be sure to not cut the styrophome on the bottom of the panel.
STEP2: Once the upholstery piece is successfully removed, take the upholstery off, and be sure to not rip it( mine came off with ease, just a little tug n pull). Iron the upholstery until it lays flat
STEP3: Take the flat ironed upholstery and lay it on top of the fabric and trace it out..it doesnt have to be perfect bc u will be trimming it anyway.U also dont need to cut and trace where the holes are..when u trace out the middle piece (where the window control thing goes in) trace that just a tiiiny bit smaller than the upholstery piece, bc u wanna make sure its not too short when putting the window control panel back in place. After traced, cut it out.. take the cut out piece and turn it over and trace it again for the other door panel.
STEP4: After making sure it fits properly on the naked used to be upholstery covered piece, take it back off then put on the double sided tape.
STEP5: Put ur red cut out fabric on top and make sure it lays flat..then insert the window switch panel to make sure the fabric fits riight.youll need to smooth it out to make sure theres no wrinkles and folds WHICH THERE WILL BE, but thats where u will need to work with the fabric..do what u can to avoid it..like snipping at some places..
STEP 6: After its on, nice and tight, trim around the piece so all of the holes on the panel thing are showing.
STEP 7: after putting the piece back on the actual door panel, take a look at the holes where u used the blade to cut off the plastic things. find ONLY the holes with deep innings. there will probably be only 3-4 out of 16..thats where u will put the screws in. if the holes are too shallow, you will screw right through your door panel, so be very cautious.
STEP 8: put the door panel back on the door..
this may either turn half *** and crappy, or it will turn out really nice..i think either way, you'll be more pleased with it than the stock grey stuff!!.. but lets see how this will turn out in a couple of months!..i ONLY finished mine today, and i started yesterday, but like i said..its TRIAL AND ERROR!..
GOOD LUCK!!

well, i'd like to get ppls responses first, and if they're actually interested in doing the whole process, they can simply ask..for now. i just want ppls opinion.. besides, im sure if ppl know how to swap out engines, its not hard to take a apart a door panel!

hehe..well ofcourse the real ones look hella better, they're actual JDM!! this is just a cheap way of customizing ur own "JDM" look..i mean, its kind of fun, and kind of a pain in the ***, but it saves u about $400 bucks!...i mean, sure i'll rather buy the real ones, but i dont have 400bucks for door panels right now!..

double sided tape? y didnt u use 3m super 77 or 90 spray on glue. thats what i used. that way it prevents the sag on certain parts and its more conformed to the door panel. i did this on my 93 civic door in black suede.
