Default DIY header/ catback installation civic

Hi, I want to DIY install my header, but auto shops say it's too dangerous to DIY it. Is it possible to DIY holding the car up with a pair of racing jacks? If so, how should i go about it? Also planning to put my ws2 catback in myself after it comes from truehondacom, so going to need suggestions for that in advance as well, thanks.

Also, I'm curious about the stock width of a 2000 civic EX header piping? The header I just got is 2 inches, so what's stock width??

Well I guess that explains the catback, thanks there. Now for the header and my stock pipe size.

use the oem honda exhaust manifold gasket, the header comes w/ a new one, but dont use it. the rest of the stuff comes w/ new donut gaskets, and if its 4-2-1 header the other gasket will be there for that too.

bought the header with 6000 miles on it from a guy on h-t. $95 so no gaskets, just the header. I'll just replace all the gaskets when I put the catback in then.

ok i need help with a problem now. Doing the header and 1 heat shield bolt is on so tight the welded washer came off and now it spins. 2nd problem: one of the nuts holding the header to the block is stripping... how to i get it off now? 3rd problem: I'm scared to go under my car even tho i have a racing jack, my oem jack, and 2 jack stands holding it up.

hmm.... well then maybe paying a shop might make you more comfortable. just giving you a hard time. you'll be fine, as long as you put the jacks in a good location, and they are firm, you'll be just fine.

yeah... guess they forgot to mention that you should put some liquid wrench on the bolts and let it soak in for a couple of days first.

Stripped bolts... do you mean rounded off?
If so, start spraying the penetrant on every hour and then in the morning do some more... tomorrow night get some vice grips on the rounded bolts and try again...

Observe the torque order and specs for assembly.

yeah, the corners are starting to round, it's still like 3/4 flat, but the corners are round. so i need to put wd40 on it and let it soak for the next day?

at the very least, let it soak for a day. but if it is your dd, then that may be hard. If I had rounded it off that much, I would let it soak for as long as possible, and keep respraying every hour or so. Then try again later.

As your last ditch, you can drive the car around for a bit until the header is crazy hot, then park it, shut it down, and try undoing the bolts while it is hot. Simply speaking, the manifold should expand more than the bolts in the heat, and you may have a better shot at getting it off. But I would save that for last ditch. And wear thick gloves...

go to sears and get a set of those bolt out things. they work and are definately a nice thing to have around. you just hammer the thing onto the stripped bolt, put a bigger socket over that, and it will come right out.

i hate safety glasses but i always wear them when i'm near the exhaust. way too much **** falls off and gets in your eyes.

Bad day. called it a night when we got cut up, soaked in wd40... and alot of bad times. 2 bolts left to loosen. 4 soakings of wd40 over a period of 40 minutes = semi stripped, but lossened bolt. wd40 where i got cut = bad times. going to take tomorrow off from school probably to cool off then finish this thing.

wow, if you are missing school to do this.... and going through so much grief... I would have just paid the shop a bill to do it all. No headaches or injuries. Well, you live and learn.

I sitll say it's worth it. Just finished putting it in, but bad timing was the delivery of my catback! I just finished bolting in the header and the catback arrived! I was like f*ck that! That's being put in this weekend! I'm going to work! I'll put pictures up later.
