Default Del Sol Trans Top Troubleshooting guide.

Hey guys,

I have a 93 SIR
My TT has broken three times. I am posting with information to those who need some troubleshooting help.

General
1. Personally, I believe the TT is hondas worst design for flaws.
2. If you are planning on buying, be ready for it to break.
3. There is a Control Box inside the trunk on the left side behind a cover. Take the cover off, and when you have the keys in the ignition it will beep codes, download the transtop user manual (somewhere? LOL, theres links off google) and it will tell you where your problem is. TAKE NOTE > it is not always accurate and may tell you the wrong issue, (brain may think its one thing, that is actually caused by something other.)

Advice
1. Dont buy a TT del sol LOL.
2. TAKE PHOTOS OF EVERYTHING WHEN TROUBLESHOOTING.
3. DO NOT manually force the tilter motor up with the access from behind the drivers side, there is a winded cable inside there and when forced it will snap. How do i know? Because been there done that xD

First, make sure you know the sequence.
Engine ON.
Hand brake ON. (Make sure the light comes on)
Undo the roof latches (left and right only, not the middle, should start to beep) (does not beep when you undo latches? test your switches located inside the sides of the car frame.)

^ There is one switch in each side, stick a screwdriver inside, you should hear a click (do it when it is quiet.)

Hold the button.
Windows should come down, trunk goes up, roof tilts up, arms come out, switch the middle latch, hold button again and it should grab the roof back into the trunk, followed by it closing.
(when trunk is closing it may stop once of twice, simply let go and hold the button again)

Trunk opens fine by key? But nothing happens when you are inside and press the button?
1. Take off the cover for the roof tilter, unbolt the (4?) bolts that hold it in place.
2. Take off the cover, with the (black?) cover facing up, (**** inside there can fall out easy)
3. Look at cogs, if any plastic is stripped (metal? if already swapped) MAKE SURE THEY GO BACK IN SAME ORDER.

Above (one of my cogs is stripped, they are plastic for a reason, they are designed to strip / break first so other things inside the TT do not.)

4. There are 4 wires that run into the tilter motor, there is 2 switches at the end of them, take those switches out and make sure there is proper contact ( that was my first issue, there was no contact / wires separated. Photo below.)

5. Test the switch, press it and make sure it clicks on/off ( some switches may have an old spring inside and no longer work so they are stuck in the on or off position.

If you know where the switches are (about 10 total?)

Make sure they ALL work, take off, press it, and you should hear a click. If it does not or is weak, replace.

^ One is that point that sticks out beside the silver arm.
( I believe it is for when your arms are fully extended? Or possibly fully back inside the trunk WITH the roof?)

^ This is inside the trunk for the arm motor, 2 switches inside that are turned on / off by that top cog, you can just see the 2 bumps on the plastic cog. ( Red circles are 2 switches )
( Blue circle is a magnetized switch? the fuc? I still dont know why they used a magnet switch and or what it controls.)
Switch on left turns on when the arms are fully OUT
Switch on right turns on when the arms are fully inside the trunk ( if it is off your trunk will NOT close / open )

Does not work? Time to start taking everything apart my friend.
Check all wires, connections, switches, cogs for condition. Theres no way around it.

Have comments / personal experience? Post here for our fallen TT brothers.

Hey fellow delsolian...i am wondering after the "snap", how did tou manage to open the trunk? Please somebody help me i cannot acces the trunk to replace the bowden cable. It all first started when i dropped the roof and when i reached my destination all it did was beep and not let me put the roof back.
