Default Del Sol Seat Question. Yes I Searched.

Ok I have some nice Del Sol seats I want to put into my 92 CX Hatch. I've read that they sit pretty low which is a concern. I'm only 5'9" and my wife who will occasionally drive the car is 5'3". Here is my question.

Has anybody tried to space these out with washers or a custom bracket to raise them up a bit? Would you do it between the seat and bracket or the bracket and floor. I'm not looking for a total hack job as I want it to be safe, but if there is a way to space it has anybody tried???

Thanks for your time.

I did have Del Sol seats in my 92 Si for quite a while. I am 5'8" and had no issues with the height of the seat. I don't have an exact number, but I'd estimate the height loss at an inch or at most a couple of inches. I don't think you'll have any problem seeing out of the car, and I'd doubt your wife would either.

My biggest gripe with the height was that I couldn't comfortable put my arm on the window sill and still hold onto the steering wheel, but I can't even do that with the stock seats.

But to answer your question, if someone has tried, I don't know about it, but here are some considerations. If you add 1-2 inches of spacers, it will almost certainly reduce the effectiveness of the fasteners in a collision. You could cut the regular Civic rail up, and have someone weld an extension in its place. That seems to be a decent way of installing EP3 seats into a 92-95, and would likely work here as well.

I'd suggest just swapping them in, seeing if they're too low, and working from there. You may be happy with the height without messing with them.

The only thing I can think of is that you would need someone to fabricate a custom mounting frame that would mount in the location your stock holes are now(on the floor), have some sort of height to it(stationary; +1-3 inches), and would have new mounting locations for the del sol seats to attach to.

You do realize that since you didn't list your height that this didn't help the OP too much.

It sounds like the OP is concerned that he or his wife won't be able to see well enough to drive.

Washers sound like a bad idea because they'd have to go between the car and the rails. I wouldn't want unstable seats in my car.

I agree. I'm going to look at it closer when I get a chance. If possible I was thinking of having aluminum spacers machined, wouldn't cost that much at all, and them maybe some grade 8 bolts. But just thinking this not sure if I'll do it. But if I do raise it, it will be right, I don't hack safety issue's.

Swapped them out Saturday. AMAZING little upgrade. The Del Sol seats are Way more supportive (obviously), Way more comfortable, I was really suprised by how comfortable they were. The seats were ALSO lighter than my factory vinyl CX seats.

Now the question many of you have is "how much" lighter? I have no idea I was at my parents and they do not have a scale. But picking them up a couple of times right beside each other, it was noticable that the Del Sol seats weighed less than the CX seats. I'd say at least 5lbs, could be more.

And the seating is only slightly lower as many have stated. Fits perfect and not a big deal.

Thanks for the help ladies and gents.

Glad to hear, I hope to pick up some Sol's in the future since my stock seats are starting to fall about(foam crumbles)

Bracket as in track? No. You have to swap out both sides of the tracks. BUT, not a big deal. One side has two 12mm nuts and one 10mm bolt. The other side has a few bigger bolts and nuts. But depends on the seat.

Either way, just use your head and take your time, it's not that difficult to figure out. Took me a couple of hours start to finish. And that was taking my time, cleaning stuff up and vacuuming the seat areas while they were out
