Default decrease in mpg, kinda a lot

ok so i have a 95 civic lx sedan with 231k miles on it..lately i've notice how badly the mpg is..b4 i figure i gets around 350-370ish to a full tank..thinking my tank is 11.9 gal..when i feel up i'm at 270 and after filling up it said i only put in 8-8.5 gal..so if i have like 3-4 gal left time that by 30mpg i should get up with around 120miles..so add on the 270 that's how i get what i said about..but lately it doesn't even reach 270 when i have to fill up..i get like 200 to 210 mile when the needle is at the red mark..so i fill it up and it said i only put in 8 gal..sitll got about 3-4 gal..

anyway, i KNOW for sure i'm loosing lots of mgp..i don't have any perf. mod..only have universal muffler welded on stock pipe and an ebay cat converter..
these were change 3 months ago, no problem then..o2 sensor and spark plugs were done at the same time as the cat converter and muffler..so just lately when i notice the drop..

same driving habit..same start up/warm up time in the morning since it's cold..no leaking anywhere...all fluids are topped off..

i can't explain it..any suggestion?? and yes i've change the oil, new air filter too..all done 1k ago when change oil..

Great post. Really. Very informative. Kinda noobish yourself since you've been here a mind boggling 45 days.

Have you done any other maintenance lately. Fuel filter, rotor, distributor cap, wires, sprark plugs, etc.? With that many miles some of those things may need replacing.

You should find out how to calculate gas mileage correctly first....

consider yourself lucky since my car gets at most 250 miles to a tank....thats after changing the oil/filter plugs wires dizzy cap/rotor fuel filter coolant bla bla bla and air filter

Plus i dont race my car

how cold is it there? that will kill your mpg,
I was lucky to get 100 miles from a 1/2 tank.

change everything i stated, plus check your gay *** exhaust setup for leaks, and go ahead and put all the OEM stuff back on....ill give you 2 hours to do that, when you come back, then let us know how "well" your car runs/sounds.

also any body kit on there, or other accessories will mess your miles per gallon up, wider tires, under inflated tires. Wheel bearings=check, a spoiler/wing=remove......check for a under powered fuel pump, or a fuel return line which isnt returning its fuel.

exactly, you're guesstimating. Get real numbers and come back

problems:

-the way you're calculating gas mileage
-it's cold, your car will get worse gas mileage in cold weather
-if you're letting the car sit, idle and warm up, this will ruin your gas mileage.

1st off someone mentioned about fuel mileage calculating but never told you how. Fill up and reset your trip odometer drive your car until you need to fill up. Then take the mileage on your trip odometer and divided it by the number of gallons it took to fill up. This gives you your miles per gal. Write this down in a note book and repeat over the course of several fill up. You can then see an average mpg and let us know what you are getting. It could be your O2 senser is going bad or that it is just cold

Good god...

100 miles to 1/2 tank, 140 miles per tank???

I had no problem, even in the dead of winter, getting 300-325 miles to the tank (32-35 mpg) in my hatch.

Anyways, you do need to figure out your mpg the correct way instead of guessing.

x2

btw im getting crappy mileage right now also, i have done everything from both fuel filters to k&n and new plugs/cap/rotor/adj valves and then some. Only thing left to do now is injectors, maybe, hopfully not. also im gonna try some different fuel besides 85, 89or91? see if that helps any cuz im sick of gettin 29.9 ish mpg the past 4 times getting gas.

Check your tire pressure. Low pressure = more contact patch = higher rolling resistance = more gas needed to get moving
