Default Dealership work/ T-belt-water pump = $700 parts/Labor?

Friend has a 97 LX sedan Auto and needs his t-belt water pump replaced and Dealship quoted around $700 for it. is that about right. I didn't think it was. I know it should only be about a 3 hour job and plus parts at $50/hr for labor it just doesn't add up to 700.

That's no surpraise, they charge a lot becuase of labor and theres a chance he/she could mess it up. That's why they charge so much, it's not that hard. For that much I'd take a chance and do it myself. Can drop a new motor in there for $700.

for 700 bucks you could drive to Bellingham, let me do it, go shopping, and drive back.

That's a road trip, shopping trip, and getting the car fixed all for the same as a dealership

well, i wouldnt say that, sure they charge a lot for customers, but if you work at one, (like me) they are your best freind. I got my oil changed, 2 filters, 3 qts of MTF, new valve cover seal, got to wash my cover in the parts washer, and use all the brake/engine cleaner i want, after that, i used the company carwash and vaccum, hell i could have had a lube tech get my engine bay steam cleaned if he wasnt off work. all for $14

Most of the smaller garages will do a t-belt for $300-400.

Longview texas. Yeah i used to work at a Toyota dealership but i didn't remember them charging that much for a T-belt, etc. I changed mine in 3hrs and only cost me parts. if i had time i would change his and make some money but time is precious right now. thanks for the imput.

I charge about 400 including parts for d and b series.

- tensioner, t-belt, waterpump & gasket.

seems like a fair price to me.

accords have balance shafts as well.

All OEM parts, i believe it would cost that much.

But yeah, a shady-tree mechanic could do the same job for way less.

I suggest getting the parts from honda however.
