Default Is this a deal or not?

I need a car to get to school and work I've never really worked on a car but I am willing to learn so would this car be a worthwhile commuter if fixed?
BTW I only have 1000 to spend =/

not a bad price to get cleaned up and fixed.. IF you had the means/cash

cleaning up the head will be around 150 if nothing needs to be replaced. Gasket is another 40-50.

So if you can do it all yourself (by researching how to DIY) then looks like a deal to me.

I would buy it for 2k if it wasnt already priced, i think its a deal. Like what esotericimage said, if you can diy the head (It's very do able for the most novice DIYer) than you should be good. If you ever have problems and want to sell it, i will buy it off you with cash

This.

If you can swap a head gasket, and don't mind putting a bit of money into it, i'd go for it.

No I don't but I want to learn so I think it'd be good experience but at the same time I need something reliable so Idk. I make like 600 a month so would it make more sense to wait and gain more money for a reliable daily driver?

Also thanks for the replies really really helpful

or go buy the tools you will need from harborfrieght.com

If your not into cars, then you can ditch the tools afterwards. But its not that difficult. Its either you or pay someone else to do it. Someone else will follow the same steps that you would need to follow. So, do some research on what it will take. theres write ups everywhere.

If this isnt something you want to take on, then tow it to your fav mechanic. Probably cost you 350 or so to have him do it.

Hell yeah thats a good deal. I would get that in a heart beat. Rebuild the single slammer. Or swap a b16 or gsr in if and when you have the funds and play around with the single cam.

Great find. It would be sold tonight if it was local.

I would pick it up for 600 and hell just tear her open and do the gaskets and head resurface and have a cheap dd then start modding it. I hav about 1100 in 2 del sols and am gonna swap everything onto my 94 so i have. Nice cheap badass car. The donor has alot of new parts including the dizzy and clutch

Like everyone else is saying it looks to be a good buy, but only if it's truly just a head gasket issue. Have you seen any ads for civics for $1000 that are running well? might want to try them out if you have.

Thanks everyone I'm trying to get a hold of the owner now hopefully it isn't sold. There are also some Ef's for sale what are your thoughts on those? Are they too old to be reliable seeing as alot of them have rust.

Really ANY car can be a realiable car depending on how it was taken car off. I have seen in my lifetime 8 UNMOLESTED garage kept honda's. Now it is REALLY RARE to find a mint honda, but a lot of them aren't in "Terrible" condition. Deal's like this eg are great if the head gasket is the ONLY problem. My friend just got an em1 for 1100$ all it needed was an ignition switch and new spark plugs. The guy knew NOTHING about the car and though it had a "Blew engine" lol. But for 1100$ for just a CLEAN title almost mint em1 is a great deal too. Now besides the point, it's all about if you want to really put the time and effort to finding and working on them that makes it count.

If you're looking for a project car and you have another car buy it. You can learn alot, fix the headgasket and see how far it takes you.

I say again.. 600 bux... why? you cant drive it home, you dont know the overall condition of the car.
Could be more issues you dont know about, you are taking the risk.
600 and replace the HG deal of the century.
If i were anywhere near there id bring my trailer and truck with the cash and he would know im serious.
If he truly wanted it out of his yard, he'd pull out the pink slip and sign it over.
nothing like putting the pressure on the seller to take the money and watch me drive away. yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa buddy!

^ He's right.

I watched it myself. Pulled up with the trailer, 1500 cash and it leaves today.
Dude wanted 3k. He pulled out the title and signed it.

if you have time its definitely worth it, parts are cheap and the know how u could easily learn almost anything for diy on this site, it has helped me with every problem, did tranny drop and clutch chage out just off this site, the head gasket is easily doable with the right tools and some time
