Dash is out. Should I remove firewall mat? How much weight is saved?
My dash is currently removed. I see the mat, and it looks pretty thick. I read that you feel a lot more heat from the engine, and I live in the south so this is an issue.
I was wondering if anyone knew exactly how much (i.e., not "a lot," or "not enough) that mat weighs.
I don't care about the sound, but I don't want to cook my passengers (or myself) in the summer time. Thanks guys.

its about 10 lbs , and more heat does come into the car.
same with sound deadening , less material to go thru = more heat in the cabin.
YOU need to decide whether its worth it to you.

I've got mine out and really it isn't so bad.
Heat?
Don't even think that's an issue. the issue might be the fumes though - sometimes you can smell fumes after really standing in it in my car.

Hey Tom. You don't have A/C in your car anyway right? I am keeping A/C, and I don't want my civic to be my track only car when I win the lottery (cheap rear wheel drive here I come). In other words I am trying to keep some semblance of civility so I don't always have to ride in my girl friend's car...
Thanks for the input guys.
By the way Tom: I got that pin out. I removed the shift linkage with the engine. I hammered out the pin with a allen wrench, and took lots of pics. I will put together a nice write up when I am finished. Thanks again for the help.
