dash lights
my dash lights have not been working for some time now and i finally just now got around to posting this to figure out why the heck they wont work...the fuse blows every time i turn my lights on so i know there is a short somewhere in the wiring but im just curious as is if there is an easier way that pulling the whole dash off to trace the wires...any insight would be greately appreciated

are you sure its not your dimmer switch? my dashlights would go off, then you could push on the dimmer switch and they would come back on. so i would check that before you start rippin wires and rewiring everything. if thats not it, make sure that all the wires are not showing through the rubber and hittin some metal or other wire anywhere. good luck.

it could be the dimmer switch. the dash lights act up when the switch goes out.
i would go to a junk yard and pick one up for about $25, since the dealer wants over $50.
if that doesn't work, you will have to get a voltage meter and start trouble shooting the wires to be able to find the short.

Re: dash lights (philosofy1)
when you say dimmer switch do you mean the button beside the cruise button that has the turn dial on it with the picture of the light bulb or the lever on the side of the steering column that you flick for the turn signals...

Re: dash lights (evokidvii)
i replaced this switch and it did not fix anything and yes i thought maybe it was a wire behind the stereo because it does have an aftermarket head unit it in but i went and bought a new one and a new wiring kit and all and that did not fix the problem either and i filled the fuse box up the whole way and turne every accessory in the car on to see if any blew and none did so now i think im going to pull t he dash cluster and use my test light and start at my light bulbs and trace the wires back and see if there is a short because i replaced a light bulb yesterday from my friends car and it didnt fix it. any info is still plenty welcome
