D16z6 ticking noise?
94 civic ex, I'm pretty sure its been making a slight ticking sound for awhile now. I can only hear it when the car is first turned on and seems to be coming from behind the header, Or somewhere in that area.
Doesn't seem to affect the way the car drives. But it got a bit loud yesterday and now I would like to figure out what this is before it possibly gets worse.
A buddy of mine got a 370z so we where out racing around that night and I was flooring it allot just to attempt to keep up with him. after awhile it was like i was loosing power. Went to pass someone on the ride home and floored it and the car really didn't do much. Not like it should have. I also have an auto trans. But now the car seems fine. Like it needs to rest before it builds the power back. Seems weird.

Well you broke something, and power shouldn't be the same as it was before....
Because you tried keeping up with a 370z.... Seriously? In an auto trans too?
Before you 'raced' have you taken care and serviced your car properly?

Sounds like you fucked up your valvetrain. Step 1, stop driving like an idiot. Step 2, compression test to see if you fucked up a specific cylinder. Step 3, valve lash adjustment.

I'm not sure if i broke something or not. I mean the car acts fine. drives fine, sounds fine other than that slight ticking.
LMAO 370z has me by like 250hp xD I know i can't keep up with it a friend just got one and didn't know how to drive it(he had an auto before that as well)
We where just messing around, Yea i have an auto, Not by choice. But its what i got.
But what are the probably hundreds of possibilities this ticking could be? its near the belt area as well maybe its something in there? But i drive the car every day to and from work. with everything acting as it should.

and yes the car has been up to date on things. Oil change about 2 weeks ago, Id say spark plugs, wires, distributor rotor was done 8 months ago give or take. The engine also has a little over 100,000 miles on it.

Check valve lash. Other than that it could be slop in the rockers/valve train, a bent part, wrist pin or rod bearing (is it a double tick) or piston slap. Usually the D series end up with piston slap. How fast is the tick? Does it happen under load, at idle or decelerating? Is it worse cold? Pull the plug wires one at a time and see if the tick goes away to narrow it to a cylinder.
