Default d16z6 swap ECU question

1. Yes I searched. It's been giving me wierd results lately so i dunno whats up with that.

alright, so I hate to ask this question when i know the answer is out there, but i just can't seem to find it so finally decided to make a post lol.

I'm wanting to swap a d16z6 into my del sol and turbo it, and have therefore been reading up on lots of stuff. anyways, i have a d15b7 right now (i.e. non-vtec) and will be needing needing and ECU when i do the swap. i've heard P28 mentioned a lot, so i assume it will be the one to use, but i know nothing about them. and for the life of me, can not find any information detailing the diffences between ecu's and which ones came with which engines and well, just info in general about them. if someone could point to some thread or article i can read i would be sooo grateful.

btw this will be my first swap so if anything comes off as noobish sounding, thats why. I try to read up on every thing so that doesn't happen but lets face it, it still happens lol.

serious? i figured it would be more complicated than that. so pretty much if i pull an engine out of the junkyard and just grab the whole ecu and harness i'll be set then? god that just seems too easy lol. (btw thats my plan lol. poor mans turbo build =D)

oh yeah i plan on running fairly low boost for a while. i've heard their good up to 230, so i figure if i get a good engine, inspect it and fix anything that might fail, i'll be good for up to about 200, definitly won't go higher than that though until it's built. but this is starting to go off the original topic lol.

so i guess that sort of answered my question then. unless someone has got some other info for me

Make sure the P28 you get is for the right type of transmission.

Also, i've heard (not sure how true it is) that all del Sols, even the S, come with VTEC wired up in the engine harness. To see if this is true check your ECU harness for pin A4.

well, i'm doing it cheap cuz its my first time doing any sort of swap, tuning, or turbo, and i fully realize that theres a 99% chance i will screw something up haha. all i've done is bolt on some headers and intake and stuff a monkey could do lol. this way when i do mess up it won't set me back nearly as much lol. the whole goal of this for me personally is mainly just to learn more, not to be the most uber sweet build you've ever seen. that will come later =P much later lol.

now this is what i'm talking about =D lol. i remember hearing something similar as well, but i have no idea how to check that. dunno crap about ECU's and harnesses, just that you need them lol. would it just be an empty space on the harness thats labeled A4?

The wire will just be missing if you don't have it. It should be orange with a white stripe. Although, this diagram says that it's not at the engine harness, just at the ECU harness end. I guess at least it would make tapping into the ECU harness easier if you have the wire there. A4 and D6 are the pins responsible for VTEC.

ok so if i have it it'll be on my ECU harness and not the engine harness it looks like. i guess that would be pretty sweet if i didn't need another ecu for it. though i might get one anyway just so i have two full engines in case i really mess one up lol.

you'll need the P28 ECU still, just not a harness.
