d16z6 ECU questions
i just bought a 93 Civic LX 2 weeks ago. PO said that the person before her had changed the motor, i really didnt put much thought into it.... I have a leaky valve cover gasket, so i checked the engine number to make sure i get the right gasket.... looks like they swapped in a d16z6 motor.... well they also DIDNT swap/chip the ECU and wire up VTEC. so i have a few questions about that....
1. It currently has a p06 ECU and seeing how they didnt wire in vtec, i would say its not chiped... so what wires are what coming off the vtec solenoid?
2. I know the d16 has i higher powerband and redline. if i swap put the p06 with a p28 ECU, will it change the shift points of the tranny to match (its an automatic )
3. as of right now, the car is just a daily driver... so will swaping the ECU for use of vtec effect gas mileage? the last tank i got 29MPG
4. will running the engine off that old p06 harm it in anyway?

Re: d16z6 ECU questions
do the wires run to the passenger side shock tower? engine harness is original to the engine but they probably stop there, check and findout if they swapped out the dash harness if they did all you will need is the ecu, if not your gonna need to run the wires or get an ex/si dash harness

Re: d16z6 ECU questions
Shift points for DX and EX automatic transmissions differ as does the gearing. It'll work, but it may shift a little weird. Highway RPM is going to be on the high side with a DX automatic (the EXs had a higher overdrive gear than the DXs due to having a little more power so it drops the cruising RPM down)

Yes. But the EX (only trim level where you could get a Z6 and an automatic) is different. You could add the vtec components to the P06 and chip it with P28 maps, but i'm not sure if that will help at all. I know you can't adjust shift points with crome, maybe with other software.

'95 only -> A24A
What kinda sucks is the EX transmissions have the same number on the sticker, but they are in fact different transmissions. Btw it's been my personal experience that the M24As are tougher than the A24As

Re: d16z6 ECU questions
I'd swap the ECU and wire vtec. Don't expect anything crazy for mileage out of an automatic Civic, it'll be decent, but it's not going to be like a 5 speed.
