the y8 is faster by a couple bhp and several lb of torque
but idk if the ek is heavier than the eg
but the z6 tends to have more miles cause their older
lot of things to consider

Z6....I say that because the Y7/Y8's are more prone to spinning bearings due to lack of oiling capabilities.
Z6= 125hp
Y8= 128hp
Not much of a difference in power that you will feel, go with the more reliable motor...Z6.

Re: D16y8 Vs D16z6?
d16y8
Power : 127 hp (94.7 kW, 129 ps) @ 6600 rpm
Torque : 111 ft·lbf (45.79 kg/m, 145.1 Nm) @ 5200 rpm
d16z6
Power : 125 hp (93.2 kW, 127 ps) @ 6600 rpm
Torque : 106 ft·lb (14.7 kg/m, 144 Nm) @ 5200 rpm
ek/ej 6 gen is a bit heavier so they end up being about the same as fast.

If you want to get one or the other just get a z6 block and a y8 head. From what ive heard the y8 head flows better? Let me know if I'm wrong

the y8 head has a combustion chamber just like the gsr. "square design?" therefore giving the y8 more compression than the z6.
listen to Jdm John, get a good condition Z6 block and throw a Y8 head on along with a y8 headgasket. you'll be happy.
if you are experienced in engine build, also looking into Dohc ZC pistons ( p29/pm7 )
the will bump up your compression.
but overall, i LOVED the y8 in my brothers EG compared to my z6 ef/obd1 converted.
both of us was stock, we were both using the p28 ecu, both motors bought from the yard. the y8 had more topend even with my brothers dx tranny.. i had the cable si tranny and he still took me by half a car.
Goodluck though, Glad to see another D lover

i dont think you would want to mixmatch the block and the head. my buddy had problems with the head gasket and the cylinder head going loose

Re: D16y8 Vs D16z6?
get the d16z6, (y8's had oiling system problems)
throw vitara pistons from YCP (coated) into it, TT rods
chamfer the oil pump feed, gasket match the z6 head, and y8 intake manifold, run a p28 on ectune, hondata or to save money CROME
if john cui and is ROM editor is still around.
i had all this stuff in the garage one point along with the greddy manifold but i ran into some money and jumped on the k24 bandwagon
also you're local i used to go to school there, still have that greddy mani if you're planning a build or some ****
