d16y8- Low rpm's when driving
I everyone this is my first post as a member and I have got a question, I have a 97 Honda Ex and it feels really slow and i don't think vtec is on, because when im in 1st,2nd,or 3rd gears im not able to go any higher than 4,000 rpm's
and if i do my engine sounds like its being overworked so i have to shift to the next gear, does anyone have this problem or is this normal?

I know that but when i get to 4000 rpm and above it feels like i start to overwork the engine like its redlining.

ya, this is what happens when the v tec is disconnected. it will red line at 4000 rpm its in limp mode. check your connections on the v tec solyn.

Yes, My friend had a 2000 Civic Ex and I pulled his engine/tranny for him to paint the inside of the engine bay and when i put it back i didn't connect the V-Tec to see if he noticed it was slower lol and it red lined at 4k. I connected it and hello 7K redline lol.

But i believe it is only disconnected because if it were to be connected and the solyn was out it would still rev high just v tec wont engage. i drove without v tec for a long time on my z6 and still pulled hard.
But your **** is OBD2 so it will not allow it to rev over 4k when it is disconnected.

Go to autozone and have your Check Engine Light Checked. Ill bet their on for the V Tec Solyn and V Tec Pressure Sensor.

I will look into that Travis thanks a lot, ever since i got the car a year ago i had a feeling something was wrong because it was just too slow and would not rev past 4000k, and the d16y8 rev's past that. thanks for the input Travis hopefully that solves my problem.

If you don't have a CEL Then I'd make sure that someone didn't remove the bulb from the cluster. because anytime the engine goes into LIMP mode a CEL will come. Go to Autozone and the scanner will still pull the codes even know the CEL isn't in the cluster. Maybe someone took it out or it burned out.

Well I checked the wires and everything is hooked up in the vtec solenoid, I took it off to check the filter and cleaned it but it still doesn't work, i'm thinking I might get a new one
