D16Y8 Idles @ 1500 - Redlines @ 3500??
Alright H-T Civic gurus, I have been reading a lot of posts but had no luck.
First of all, I have a 2000 Civic EX (D16Y8) and just recently I have been having problems with my motor. Replaced dist. cap, wires, and plugs about a year ago. Just in the last couple of months, my car hesitates to start. And when it does, it idles @ 1500 (cold) and if I decide to drive - the car bogs/redlines @ 3500. It is a stock Y8 with straight piping.
It does throw a CEL which I am getting checked out today. Any suggestions/advice, would be greatly appreciated!

Why do you have a stock Y8 with a straight pipe?
Anyway....it might be your CKP. This same situation happened to me. You have to replace the distributor if it's throwing a code for the CKP. Check out distributor king's ebay listings. Great price/service.

no offense, because you're not the first, and won't be the last, but this should be stickey'ed and FAQ'ed... not that it'll help.
If your XXXXX car won't rev past XXXXX and there's a CEL, figure out what the CEL is first.
If your XXXXX car does ANYTHING abnormal and there's a CEL, figure out what the CEL is first.
Post the CEL code and we can probably help you.

when you get the code, find it here
https://honda-tech.com/forums/honda-civic-del-sol-1992-2000-1/%5Bfaq%5D-ecu-codes-everyone-682412/
those ARE OBDII codes.
