d16y8 head on a d16y7 bottom end! Need HELP! All help needed. Advice welcome too!
Well I have waited and waited and here it is. I found the bottom end I needed.
No more Homie style swap in mind.
Ok here is the situation
I am geting a 97 Civic EX with a d16y8
The cars Bottom end has a rod knocking, I dont have time to fix it, nor do I feel like it.
So im buying a new bottom end. Its a d16y7.
My plans are to take the d16y8 out, drop the d16y7 bottom end in, and then Bolt on the d16y8 head. Is this a bolt on plug and play procedure ?
I know I will need a head gasgate. But other then that what do I need to know.
What about torqe specs on the head. And also unbolting everything and bolting it back togher.
Is there anything I should watch for or take not of?
Also is there anyone in macon or lizella or warner robbins or even perry or bolingbroke. That wants to help me do the swap? Whoever has tools and a cherry picker and knows there stuff, gets cash + they can keep the d16y8 bottom end, it has 80k miles on it, and has a rod knocking, its fixable, i just dont want to fool with it.
all help apreciated.
Thanks in advance.

the head has a 2 step procedure for torque.
step 1 is 22 ft lbs
step 2 is 61 ft lbs.
loosening sequence is as follows
firewall
3,5,9,7,1
2,6,10,8,4
front bumper
tighten them in reverse order
firewall
8,6,2,4,10
9,3,1,5,7
front bumper
and let me know if you would sell the block to me

?:-/ ummmm I reaaaly appriciate those numbers. But could you possibly break it down a little bit more and maybe help me understand where to start. I have never done a swap or taken out a motor before. Only thing ive done was bolt on upgrades and ive taken my valve cover off. I know its alot to ask but you seem to know your stuff, could you possibly give me some steps on what to do first, and in what order to do things in. I dont want to mess anything up.
Also do you think this swap can be done in a day?
Btw I might sell the block. make me an offer.

well, if you get a cherry picker it will be easier but i guess if not, find a tractor with a loader on it. (a hicks gotta do what a hicks gotta do)
since you have to pull the whole engine, start with draining fluids(oil, coolant, tranny fluid)
then i would go through and unplug all the harnesses from the engine and tie back, take shift linkage off tranny, remove hoses/lines from engine/tranny that are connected to the car itself.
then support the engine (jack underneath or chain on tractor/cherry picker or comealong. and remove mount bolts. believe there are 5 total 3 engine, 2 tranny
then slowly lift out making sure nothing else is connected to chasis and engine.
think this may be helpful from this point

would you ship it?? ill pay shipping plus $100
email me to negotiate t_polen69@hotmail.com

Man you kick ***. Well If I still have the head id be more then happy to sell it to you for that and get a shipping price for you. Also yes I can ship it VIA Fed EX. I dont trust UPS or USPS. Dont worry I will take pics of the motor and then send you a tracking number.
Thanks again man. YOU KICK ***.
Btw. Do you know how long it might take someone to do the swap?

with all the right tools and pretty mechanically inclined, id say pull engine/tranny, swap heads, reinstall engine/tranny and hook it all up, probably 12-16 hours. to be safe i would set 3 full days aside for problems.

Yeh man I was talkin bout the bottom end when i said head. I didnt mean to say head. But yes I can ship the bottom end to you and everything.
Btw what are you talking about water pump and timing belt? What do I need to do with those? DO i need a diff timing belt and water pump. Will the ones that are on there now not work?
How much are they, and how much more of a pain in the *** will it be changing them out.

granted, I can't help in labor, but it would help anyone else available to help you if you would post where you are from.
I'm assuming you have a typo in your profile. It seems you are from Macon, Georgia, but your profile states that you are in "Macon, gs."

dont forget that you will have to take the knock sensor off your old d16y8 bottom end and place it on the Y7 bottom end.
and do you live in Macon Georgia, a friend and I will be doing a motor swap down there on friday. we might be able to help out. that is if you are from macon ga

I would watch out if you do not know how to do the timing belt, you will have to do it regardless since u are swapping heads. If you mess up the timing it can and most likely will toast your motor, you will need a timing gun also
