Default D16y8 Dizzy plugs different ?..

A lot of defferent opinions/information about this on here ...

I bought a d16y8 dizzy on here for my turbo d. The car is an obd1 p28 to a obd2.Well the clip on this car is not able to connect to the 1997 d16y8 dizzy I just bought. Ideas?... What other dizzys would be able to work on my car?The clips when matched up are the same size as each other.

Thanks..

flobby

your car is obd1, a obd2 dizzy will not plug into your engine harness. is your engine obd2a or b? you can get an adapter harness for the dizzy.

in general, obd2a is 96-98 and obd2b is 99-00. for the dizzy, i believe the obd2a has a 10-pin connection and obd2b has a 8-pin connection.

What car is it in? By the looks of things i'm guessing its in a '92 hatch. Use a D15B7/D15B8 distributor, bolts up perfectly to a Y8 head and plugs right in.

ya , its a 92.

So I could get a d15b7/d15b8 and it would work ?There wouldn't be a need for the adapter harness?

dont obd1 vtec d-series all use the td-42 dizzy? meaning any vtec dizzy would work or is there something different about the b7/b8?

B7/B8 has a different mounting flange, the same as a Y7/Y8. OBD1 vtec distributors have a slightly different mounting flange and don't bolt up properly.

What blue plug? Distributor plug should be grey.

the only diff is that obd2 utilizes one plug get the obd1 plugs and you can re pin it to obd1 its so easy i just did it the other day all you have to do is seperate the dark blue and black with yellow stripe the rest of the plugs go back in the obd1 plugs the same way as obd2 not many people know that its that easy

you are better off getting rid of that obd2 man its not as good as obd1 even if the motor is obd2 obd1 will run it fine and you wont need all the extra o2 sensor, and knock the jumpers arent always the best route either they dont tell you that they are direct fit to run some mods have to be done still

wait im confused, are you using an obd2 engine harness?

what 94eg8 was suggesting was to get an obd1 d15b7 because the plug matches your obd1 car and the mounting flange will match your y8

OBD2A is like that. OBD2B uses one small plug (applies to '99 - '00 Civic CX/DX/LX/EX only) like the larger plug on OBD1 distributors.

Why are you running an OBD2 harness? Better yet what harness? Does the engine harness have 1 small plug or 1 large plug?

Yep. That's what my brother in law did when he swapped my y8 into his EG CX hatch.

It's the old 8pin/10pin problem. I ran into it when I swapped my gsr into my 2000 EX. I snipped the plugs and resoldered the gsr plug into the civic, but I can't for the life of me remember which wires went where.
