D16Y8-D16Z6 swap
Here we go. I got a 96 civic with a d16y8 that has rod knock. My customer has a spare d16z6 and wants me to swap out the y8. The y8 is automatic. So is it possible or do i rebuild the y8. Sorry if this has been asked before but I would like to know as much about the swap as i can before i attempt it. He would rather do the swap because he has the z6. Thanks in advance for the help.

Re: D16Y8-D16Z6 swap
If the Z6 is from a 96+ (I think the 96-97 Del Sol Si's had them, not positive on this though) it should be fairly straight forward I would think. If it's an OBD I Z6 engine there might be some ECU complications due to the car being an automatic and OBD II. I'd say search through the FAQs to see if there is a more definative answer there. It's always possible to swap an engine, the question really should be "is it practical".

yes its possible to use a z6, but you have to look into weather or not your customer will have smog issues for using an older motor in a newer car, and then you'll have to figure out how to mount the knock sensor onto the z6 since z6's don't have knock sensors.
honestly you may have better luck just rebuilding the y8 since the previous owner obviously didn't know how to check their oil, they will come across complications when they look for parts such as belts, tune parts etc. plus there's the condition factor, how many miles on the z6 vs fully rebuilt y8

Agree on the rebuild. The Z6 is short of a few important sensors that the Y8 has (crank fluctuation sensor to name one) that'll definetly affect the way the car runs.
