Default D16y7 with D16z6 head mini-me swap

I've read the mini-me write up but one thing I wasn't so sure was:

-do I just slap the z6 head on to the y7 block without doing any mod for the VTEC oil passage? Like you would on a LS/VTEC?

I've searched and got all the parts as well:
-complete y7 block
-complete z6 head
-z6 timing belt
-y8 head gasket(but will any d-series head gasket work? just curious)
-9 y7 head bolts and 1 z6 head bolt for top left

Sorry if this is overrated question. I just never dealt with a d-series enigne.

Thanks in advance!!!

you need a y8 dizzy only the top bolt will line up and need ream out the slot alil bit. so your dizzy will plug and play. and yes the y8headgasket will work. dont forget to remove the oil orfice if its there for vtec. other then that you should be good to go

I wish ppl could read more carefully.

I'm putting the z6 head on the the y7 block so do I remove the oil orfice or no? Just outta curiousity... can I use any D-series head gasket for any D-series engines?

Thanks

if its obd1 car use the z6 dizzy if obd2 use a y8 dizzy but it was never specified that u have a new motor in an older car. and yes remove the oil orifice. and use a y8/z6 head gasket.

Thanks I already have the y8 head gasket. I'm just asking if ALL d-series head gaskets can be used for all d-series engines. Just curious...

Thanks

To my knowledge they will all work together but have slight differences in passage size and location as well as thickness... If your doing the Mini-me swap I would suggest using the Z6 head gasket because of the added thickness and let that help lowering your compression (assuming your doing a turbo build) and making tuning easier on you... If you are doing an all motor setup then the Y7 gasket being thinner will help raise your compression (not buy much) and make more power down low... Just my 2 cents...

No need to remove ANYTHING from the non-vtec blocks... well, with my Y7 block anyways.

This swap is JUST LIKE REPLACING a HEAD GASKET. Straight forward. The only thing that didn't line up was the PS bracket that's attached to the head and block and it's the top bolt that wouldn't line up.

My beater: '93 Civic 4dr LX

Parts:
-complete Z6 head and distributor
-complete Y7 block
-Y8 head gasket
-NINE Y7 head bolts and ONE Z6 head bolt(for top left)<---all reused
-Z6 T-belt
-Z6 tranny
-P28 ECU

I've put over 2000kms already including hard driving(red. Everything works... Runs smooth and has good low-end torque/power. I like it

I just thought I'd let ppl know

@ freddy - don't forget you need to add a knock sensor and take care of your secondary o2 heater circuit. that Y8 Harness has 1 o2 plug on it and its at the back of the motor.

When using a Y8 Head don't forget to do the timing marks with the arrows on the plastic NOT level with the head. !!!!!!

DO NOT LINE THE MARKS UP TO LEVEL WITH THE HEAD *****Line it up with the 2 arrows on the plastic !!!!

His harness is from a 2000. Stop bumping and starting fifty billion threads where you tend to leave out bits of information in every new one. You could have kept this all in the original thread.

Did you use the y7/y8 head torque sequence(step 1 - 14ft lbs,step 2 - 36ft lbs,step 3 - 49ft lbs,step - 4 49ft lbs) or the z6 sequence (22ft lbs,54ft lbs)? Thanks for any honest input
