Default d16y7 better boosted than mini-me?

im looking for the cheapest way to beat an eg with itr motor/tranny, i have a 96 cx, im looking to boost it, but i was wondering if it is better to get the mini-me....then boost it, or is the y7 like the ls in that it responds pretty damn good without vtech, caz i really dont want to change heads if its not that big of a difference, i would rather boost and then get dp and kteller 3 in. than y8 head, i have searched, and couldnt find anything useful, any info is great, thanks

Either way, you'll make good numbers with a boosted y7 or mini-me long as you tune it. Just keep the y7 if you don't want to switch heads and just get a y8 IM and tranny, that'll make a difference as opposed to just getting the head alone.

Is that ITR motor stock? Because you better be putting out at least 170 whp with as much tq if you wanna stand a chance. He already has the advantage, since the eg's lighter and the itr tranny has better gearing.

yea i still have the stock cx tranny, looking for an ex though, the itr has iceman, i think thats about it, i do already have an ex im, still need to put it on, but im hoping with the 3 in turbo back will free up some additional ponies to get close with the itr

A greddy kit at 10psi tuned will give you right around 200whp. Mine at 10psi went 202whp 175tq.

Forget about the mini me and just boost it... Who needs vtec when you have boost... Check out turbod16.com for some dyno sheets... My original one at 6.5psi is posted there as well. I think you could take an ITR swapped eg. Most of them are around 170 whp and you will far surpass that... The longer gearing won't be that much of a disadvantage with boost. With my original tranny I would never make it out of third gear on the 1/4.

from everything i've read, the y7 holds up pretty good with boost up to 7-8 psi on stock guts...but TUNING is key

Look at most boosted d's. They're all putting out about 190-200whp at 10psi. Stock ITR's would NEVER put down that much.

my buddies y7/y8 head put down 182.4whp@7psi with a custom t3 turbo kit. I think he should be able to beat stock or ITR eg's with bolt ons.

you can use both versions, auto or manual. Manual versions have the IAVC in the back of the mani as opposed to on the throttle body like the auto version.

i dunno, i just dont know, im thinking about b16a now...... as much as i would like to turbo the d16, i want some reliability, and this may sound weird, but i hate the way the d16 looks, nothing fills that engine bay better that a b series, well maybe a k
