D16A8 Cable transmission into a JDM D15B Civic
I have a Honda D16A8 DOHC Engine with a cable transmission.
The engine will be going into a 92 JDM D15B Civic which has a hydraulic transmission.
I will be turboing this car.
What are my best options with regard to the transmission.
Can I use the D15B casing and just swap over all the parts from the D16A8.
Or would I be better off using the D15B hydraulic transmission.
Thanks.

i'm guessing your a8 is pretty much a zc, (a d-series) so i would imagine that the tranny would bolt up but its a cable tranny vs a hydro setup. i know that there are mount kits for the b series to run a cable tranny in a hydro car but i don't know about the d-series. ask mistabone about the tranny compatabilies between your cable and hydro d-series trannies. i know he's done quite a bit of hybriding with the d-series tranny's so i'ld ask him.

no advantages, just more pain then its worth. you will be missing a front mount, requires a custom mount and custom hydro to cable kit to be made.
there is no advantage, if you want to use the LSD you can, you can also swap over some gears with a little work. other then that its alot of work for nothing.

Re: D16A8 Cable transmission into a JDM D15B Civic (eg6ajk)
Thanks for replies lads,
I tried to do a search for "mistabone" but ended up getting no results.
Anyway, the D16A8 engine will be going into my EG Civic which already has a hydraulic transmission.
I dont want to convert this over to a cable set up unless it is worth it.
My question is this.
Which transmission will be better for turbocharging?
Does anyone know which gears I could switch over to get the best out of these 2 transmissions. I guess I will be using the D15B transmission casing, just want to know if the gears are intechangable between these.
Thanks (go raibh maith agat)
Willie.

it is "Mista Bone"...........
The motor will not care what the tranny setup is. Be it cable or hyd. keep the correct style tranny with the CHASSIS, which in your case is EG and Hydro.
I would need more info on the hydro trannys you have available. The standard USDM EX/Si tranny does great for turbo/nitrous.

Sorry about getting your name wrong,
I just copied it from the reply I got from another memebr.
Sure tis no wonder I didn't get any results from the search.
Anyway thanks for the reply, I guess I will just use the Hydro tranny although it will probably need a rebuild coz it is starting to jump out of second and third gear on me.
Do you have any ideas whats causing this? I did change the clutch about 3 months ago, but it was fine for 2 months, and only in the last month is it jumping out of gear.
