Default d15b7 timing belt changed Big power loss.

Okay, my friend has a 95 civic dx with a d15. It has 180,000 miles on it and it has i/h/e. That is all the mods done to the engine. We replaced the timing belt and waterpump on it and now it is way slower than before. The exhaust even sounds different. I have checked the cam timing twice and it's correct. What could be the problem?

P.S. We unhooked the battery when we did the change. Could it just be the ecu confused?

I'm new here and heard you guys are pretty knowledgable about hondas.

You may wanna check the cam timing again. Have you checked the ignition timing as well? Throwing any codes?

Okay, if it even is the timing could it be the mark on the crank?
It was on the left side of the groove on the pulley but it lined up to the right of the mark.
It was right on but do you time it by the mark or the tooth/groove?
No codes, idles fine and runs fine but no power. I mean it didn't have any to begin with but it is slower now.

What happens if you tighten the belt too tight?
could that be a possible problem?

Whenever you change the timing belt, you throw cam timing and ignition timing off slightly, which can result in a power loss. Get a timing light and set your motor to 16 degrees BTDC.

Yeah, i figured it out. The d15b7 and the z6 share the same cam gear and timing marks for the cam gear. But there are two different sets of marks on the timing cover and cam gear. I used the wrong marks to time it. Got it fixed. thanks
