Hell yea you could get a D15b VTEC long block for like 250 or so.

i have a d15b8 in my 94 cx right now, and I used to have the b8 head. then i put the d15b7 head on it. I have a ex cluster in it so i know the RPM for sure.
d15b8 = 8valve 70hp, 91 ftlbs. 6000rpm redline.
d15b7 = 16 valve 100hp ?? ftlbs ~6600 redline.
you can safely rev your motor to 6000 easily, cause my bottom end sees redline all the time.
however the cx head was designed to not have power in the high RPMs so reving past 5000 rpm is absolutely pointless. with my old b8 head and my cx/vx tranny, it took me longer to get to 75 mph (where 2nd gear ends at 6000rpm with the cx/vx tranny) when i rode 2nd to the end than if i switched to 3rd at 5000 and rode 3rd through. the d15b7 and d15b8 blocks are identical. It uses the same headgasket and timing belt. 8valve d15b8 is VERY weak, but it WILL get you from point A to point B. hope this helps.

Re: d15b7 with b8 head(eww) (bense)
wow that sucks, i would just kill the motor and go to a junkyard and pick up a d16z6 and boost it...lots of fun
when you do decided to destroy it though be sure to get it on film i wanna see how much a motor can take of that much beating, the last video i saw made the damn things look bullet-proof
