Default d15b vtec no spark

i got a 98 civic with a obd1 jdm d15b vtec .. chipped p28 ecu with conversion harness ... it has a 0bd2a engine harness .. with an external coil .. the coil gets power and sends it to the distributor but the distributor will not send the spark through the spark plug wires ??? .. checked the coil itself and it is def sending spark through the coil wire .. but like i said it will not fire the plugs in the engine

Have you checked firing order maybe wires are in wrong sequence? Had a similar problem myself and firing order was off. Maybe your problem?

1342.. checked and fixed already .. even if it was off the plugs would still get spark just not at the right time .. im getting zero spark all together from the pplugs

my next step is to buy a 0bd1 d15b vtec dist. and jumper harness to obd2a harness and just remove the msd external coil all together ..

Don't throw parts at problems. Aftermarket coils are a constant source of problems.

You have given limited information, and more is needed:

1) CEL codes? CEL work?
2) Does fuel pump prime?
3) ICM tested?
4) Timing belt snapped or stripped?

check engine light comes on when key is turned then goes out .. yes it works
fuel pump primes with fuel pressure
external coil has 12v going to and coming from, with no spark to the plugs

the power stops once it is returned back into the dist. after passing through the coil ..
timing belt is in good condition , cranks over fine ... sounds good - nothing wrong mechanically

i must add that it is a obd1 dist .. with a obd2 hook up ..

Do you know what this is and have you tested it?

Has your current set ever had spark?

it is inside the dist .. with the the little metal tabs on it that connect all the wires inside???
and yes i have ran this setup before i had my dist rewired to accept a obd2a engine harness from an obd1 harness plug .. now spark does not make it to the plugs .. and no i have not tested the icm

The ICM is a switch. It tells the coil when to release its voltage. If the ICM is bad, no spark will be produced. Have an auto parts store test it.

If the ICM is fine, then you will next test the ICM wire that runs to the ECU for a short or open. The ECU tells the ICM when it should tell the coil to release spark.

If that wire is fine, then swap in a known good ECU and hope spark is restored.

i know i might sound rude and ignorant .. but what makes you think the icm is bad when its sending current throught the external coil .. ?? maybe its the 0bd2 plugs on the obd1 dist .. ???? maybe just maybe !! and like i said before this setup was running on my car like 2 months ago other than the fact that the plug for the engine harness was changed

I'll turn this around. What makes you think this^ rules out a bad ICM?

If the engine lacks spark, the coil is clearly not sending voltage anywhere.

In addition, what makes you think the coil is good? (better yet, bring the distributor back to stock)

TEST THEM AND STOP GUESSING.

lol .. sorry just frustrated a little thats all .. did check the external coil ,.. its receiving 12v and putting out 12v to the output post .. it stops at the dist. .. and i know the coil is good due to the fact that it has 12v running through it and its brand new .. only drove on it for like literally 20miles .. i just keep thinking for some reason its the obd2 engine plug that was installed .. maybe the connector is pinned wrong ?? i mean the coil sends spark through the coil wire to the dist. i check by hooking up a spark plug to this wire .. cant really do anything now im at work ,, just saying from what i already know

Test the ICM.

New coil can go bad, right? And coils are not tested by voltage but instead by resistance. Your voltage tests tell you nothing about the functionality of the coil.

The coil has three wire connections - (1) voltage from the battery, (2) communication with the ICM, and (3) output spark to the plug wires via the distributor cap and rotor.

Which of those three wires are you testing for voltage? My guess is that it's from 1 or 2.

.

i tested the the positive going to the coil .. also checked the coil wire going to the dist .. all 12v .. i also checked continuity in the coil wire going to the dist .. it was like 150 something i think .. yes u are right about that one it needs to be checked by resistance and i didnt do that at all
