d15b turbo vs rebuilt d16z6 turbo

d15b turbo vs rebuilt d16z6 turbo
I have a dilemma I have a 92 si in lack of some power. My d16z6 is getting old its running on 172,000 miles. I was thinking either getting a jdm d15b swap and turboing it. Should I get the swap or should I keep the d16z6 add some pistons and turbo it?. Either way im okay with it as far as my budget. I can afford a LS swap which I originally wanted but it kinda hard to save up it just takes time. What would u guys do d15b turbo or d16z6 rebuilt with pistons and turbo. I know d15b and d16z6 are almost similar. Which would be better? As far as money wise and power. Im leaning towards the d14b turbo $400 for swap + $1000 for turbo but im limited to boost on stock internals. d16z6 rebuilt & pistons $900 + $1000 turbo. What are your opinions?

i would stay away from turboing the motor with 172,xxx cuz thats gonna be really unreliable, i would go with the d15 turbo IMO

Since he's talkin about a REBUILT D16Z6, then I don't think it would be as unreliable as a 172k motor.
I'd say go with the rebuilt Z6 over the D15.

are you an idiot? A turbo d16 makes way more power than a ls with boltons.

I would probly go with niether, if your stuck on turboing a single cam go with the d16y8... or just hang in there, save some money and do a b series swap

Re: (jerbear!)
the people ive spoken with on the d15b + turbo have all been very pleased with it. It doesnt use little d15 rods, and they arent quite as tough as the d16z6 rods, but they are said to be pretty decent.
I am in the process of doing that same setup now, i should be done in about a week.

I don't agree. $2000 is plenty to build a nice D16 with forged internals.

why would you go with a d16y8? Don't you know that the d16z6 head flows better and the motor has a lower compression? Also his car is already obd1. So why the y8???

How can it be faster if it makes less power? Since we are talking about this going in the same chassis (same weight) and the LS doesn't make more power than the turbo SOHC, the LS will be SLOWER you ******* tard. The gear ratios are nearly the same and the LS engine WEIGHTS MORE. I guess you figure it's faster cause it's mad tight JDM DOHC yo. ****** B Series stunna.

You ran a 14.8.. and your talking ****? You waisted all that money and you ran a 14.8...... I can put less than 700.00 in a D-16 Y-7 and go faster than that.

"Earl" will do CP pistons, and Eagle rods for 800.00 shipped, and he is a great seller (yes I have them )

yea, go for the d16 built for boost and then strap on a turbo and turn up the boost.
