Default d15b 3 stage vtec ecu ? ( e motor ) wich ecu ?

Going to swap in a d15b 3 stage vtec motor into a obd2b ( 99-00) civic EX .

Currently has a d16y8 with an automatic transmission.

Going to keep the automatic transmission that is in the car and just swap out the D16y8 that is in it now and swap in a d15b obd2 motor ( hopefully i can find a obd2b one over a obd2a).

Now wich ecu would work best with my automatic transmission.

The 5 speed one or the CVT automatic one.

I was thinking as I dont have a CVT transmission Im better to sticking with the 5 speed correct ?

Also

Anyone know the ecu code for the 99-00 models ( obd2b )

( i have gotten a few links and they say p2j is for obd2a and p7j for obd2b ? )

any help or links would be great.

Thanks

well this is what i found so far

37820-P2J-003 obd2a manual
37820-P2J-J11 obdb2 manual
37820-P2J-J61 cvt obd2a
37820-P2J-J62 cvt obd2a
37820-P2J-J63 ? ( guessing obd2b cvt)
37820-P2J-J71 ? (guessing obd2b cvt )

Neither ECU will work with your transmission. You'll either have to swap to a 5 speed and run the manual P2J or keep the automatic and run a Y8 ECU and accept the fact that it will never really work quite like it should.

Why wouldnt it work well ? ( just want a reasoning to get a better understanding and give it another aproach )I was thinking it would probably do better with the cvt ecu. At least it will read some information from the car. And the automatic transmission ecu will do the rest.

There was a link i bumped into, a 97 civic hx with the usdm version of lean burn. Was on the 3rd cvt transmission so did a automatic swap from a donor civic .

Said it worked well, but always had a check engine light but still got 35-40mpgs. ( so im assuming the lean burn is still working )

Civics don't have a seperate TCM to control the automatic transmission (with the exception of the HX coupe which does have a TCM to control the CVT tranny) The engine ECU also controls the automatic tranny. Shifting and lockup is all controlled through the ECU, not to mention '96 - '00 USDM civics don't use a manual kickdown cable.

What ECU was used? I just can't see the transmission shifting properly with a P2N CVT ECU.
