Default D15 turbo??

I got a 94 honda civic with the D15B7 with around 190,000 miles on it. It runs great but i want more power. My buddy has a 92 teg with the B16 swap and i was thinking about doing that. But.....I also thought about rebuilding my engine and boosting it. Not sure really what to do... Kinda lost between the two. Any thoughts and or ideas would be great, thanks.

so you just want to turbo it, clearly thats what your stating i think. and at 190k turbo is ganna be rough imo. but if its taken care of, then it shouldnt be a issue.

sorry if that was confusing. I am still new at this. I like turbo cars. My first import was a 1991 Galant VR4, and it was amazing, till the tree fell on it. And i used to have a 1995 Civic EX with the D16Z6. And the Vtec was good, nothing like the B16 though, lol. I guess what i am asking, is should i take the time and build the D15 and turbo it or just get a B16 swap and go with that? Also, does Vtec make a big difference when running a turbo or not?

B16 swap with out a doubt. dont even bother turboing a 190k D15 lol.

take the time to build and turbo the D15. take the b7 head off and put the v tec z6 head on it and turbo and you can see up to 400WHP. And you will shut up most B16's.

lol travis picked me up and slammed me on my head haha. darn u travis. although perk its really all up to you buddy to save moeny of course turbo ur D15 for best results turbo the b16

for the same price of a b16 swap you could very easy build the D to handle 400hp, do a search on vitara pistons.

If i decided to turbo the D15, where would i even find parts or what parts can i use in the block? I have found lots of stuff for the D16 but little for the D15.

Has anyone used the Vitara pistons on a stock usdm D15 bottom end? If so, any suggestions or things i may need to know about. Thanks

If you're just running around town and a break down isn't a big inconvenience, go turbo D. If you need something more reliable go with a N/A B-series swap. Turbo is alot of work and unless you get someone who really knows their stuff, that built motor will get built, and rebuilt, and rebuilt until it all ends up in the scrap heap.
D15 rods are alot weaker depending on which engine you start with, I'd start with a D16 instead. Remember that with turbo the air/fuel is getting rammed into the engine, so VTEC isn't really needed. My last sohc I boosted was a Y7 with 162K miles and it's still going strong for almost 3 years now.

Very well said for sure... There is much to be had out of the d series engines. Some people just like to tell their friends that they have a "Swap".. Good for you I always say. For less than a b16 swap you could have an awesome d engine..

A healthy engine is a healthy engine...mileage aside. With good compression and leakdown test results, there would be no reason not to turbo it. Two summers back, my close friend Matt turboed his 94 EJ1...it was at 214,000 miles at the time. It always ran fine, it made good power and it never had any problems up until he sold it. I have no idea what its doing now...

turbo d15 all the way.....i love the look i get from b16 and b18 swaped civics with simple bolt ons when i smoke them. then they look under my hood....it makes me lol.

fj distributors is going to be coming out with a set of forged rods at a resonable price(300ish) in the next couple months, otherwise you gonna drop 7-800 on either pauter or crower rods. the d15 isnt "fully" balanced likr the d16's so make sure that gets done as well. also the d15 crank isnt as beefy as the d16, personnally im shooting for 300-350 which is gonna be fun as hell. not to mention not much more than a b16 swap.

you'll need

rods (3- 800)
vitara pistons(100)
machine work(300)
turbo kit(1000-2000)
misc crap-gaskets bearings, rings, ect(3-500)

$2000-3700 for 350whp..... like i said why spend all that money on a swap when your motor is perfectly capable of all you goals

i do have a D16A2 that i could use instead of the D15, It needs to be rebuilt anyway, would that maybe be a better starting point?
